I have been doing a lot of reflection on my current swing, and sometimes I am extremely harsh on myself.  Growing up with golf in the late 90’s, we had players like Norman, Faldo, Seve (kind of), Fred, and of course there were still Jack and Arnie on the Champs tour.  Those are just a few names that I remember, oh and John Daly.

I remember wanting to swing like Tiger, so I tried to model my swing after him, and I believe it worked.  Most of these guys, in my opinion swing the club rather than hit at like Trevino for an older example, and a good majority of the guys today. Faldo is kind of a hybrid maybe, SwingHit ever so slightly, and Tiger probably as well.  (What do you guys think?)

I know where I messed my swing up, and that was trying to be a hitter when I am a swinger of the golf club, that’s why when I reintroduced my hands to my golf swing something magical happened… there are a few growing pains, and if you remember me talking about my childhood/early adulthood swing I had a super reliable fade.  Well, I think I am back to that.  It takes me a while to process a round, but I had a dream about it last night.  It wasn’t Chubbs, but some fictitious person told me to play the fade.  And I think that is just what I am going to do.

It is going to take a while for me to get the aiming down because for the past 7-10 years my irons moved right to left the majority of the time on the stock shot.  Now they have a super tight fade, basically a reverse of the draw I used to hit.  I was fighting this the other day when I had the draw working, but this fade is 100% no thought required, just hit the ball. It will also be a mental game for me to not fight the left to right flight at first.

Anyways, swing away.

Are you thinking just use your natural feeling swing, and then just adjusting your aim positioning to compensate?

Will you lose the ability to grab that draw when you need it for specific shots if you don't use it enough?

Just the stock, have to hit a green shot. I can still move the ball with a draw, but it doesn’t feel natural just like you mentioned, at least right now.  A few years ago a fade felt really awkward with irons, in fact at my fitting I was trying to shape a fade with the irons and it was still a draw, just a little less of one.

Who knows, next week when a different set of muscles gets tight or loose whatever the case I may be back to hitting draws.  I love this game.

If I really need to draw the ball, I can. My shot is a small fade and I don't fight it. I have one miss this way.  Predictable and consistent. Why fight it?

True that.  Im just at a point where I have to learn to trust that it will fade.  Aiming left still gives me the 👀 thought of “are you sure you want to be aiming their genius?” Because if it drew I would not be in very good shape.

I bet.  I had this conversation some today with a buddy. He is drawing the ball now and can't trust it. Told him, pick a spot down the right line and play the draw. If it does the fade it's still in play and can rescue the hole.
