Request for help: Shaft Alternative

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi - new to the site but hoping you all can give me a hand.

I did a club fitting at Club Champion for a driver and they recommended I buy the Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Orange 50 S-Flex. It’s a rather unique shaft and in an effort to not spend $1200 on a new driver, I am trying to get close to it at a more affordable cost.

How would I go about finding what shaft is the closest to this recommended one? What would you all do in this situation.

Much appreciated in advance for the help

It is a unique profile, but being a 50 S it is lighter weight with a firmer tip and more flex in the hands.

I can't give specific options for you, but companies that suggest lower spin with a stiffer tip section and softer butt are going to be your key targets.

Graphite Design has a good breakdown.

Newton while not the same has been solid for many of our users. I would avoid traditional "red" profiles as they normally have a softer tip and are seen as higher launch.

Hopefully that helps a little bit for you.

IMHO Club Champion is soo expensive. You pay full price for the head alone then extra for the shaft. You can get the same driver with a lot of options on the shaft for the price they charge for the head.

What driver did you get fit in to?

Am I correct in seeing that the orange is a counterbalanced shaft? If so, could possibly look at HZRDUS CB line may be worth looking at.

Yep, agreed. Initial quote was about $1200. Included that shaft and the Cobra Darkspeed X 9.0 as the head.

I picked up a very gently used club with that head but the shaft it comes with doesn’t work for me so now trying to get as close as possible.

Yes, correct. The counterbalance definitely felt unique but was very helpful for me.

And driver head was Cobra Darkspeed X 9.0.

I would look at the handcrafted yellow hzrdus and compare.  You can find them for around $100 or so

@GolfLoverinFL  $1200 for that is quite a bit. Brand new that shaft is $350 and the Cobras are running around $550. That’s $900 in that set up. Sounds like you already bought the club so now the shaft. @Josh Parker is on track and I’d look at the hazardous. Adalia (spelling) ialso has a good counter balance shaft. I love counter balanced shafts but currently swinging the hell out of the MMT shaft from Mitsubishi. I don’t know if it’s counterbalanced but I’m loving it. But I’m different and also like steadfast shafts and have one on the way in Xstiff. Newton is a great shaft too. Sorry, I may have muddied the waters for ya.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

The Tensei Orange is a counterbalanced shaft with a bend profile that has a stiffer mid section and tip compared to the Tensei White.

Some variation of the Orange has been in Mitsubishi’s line up for awhile now.

You can easily buy a new and/or preowned Tensei 1K Pro Orange driver shaft on EBay at a significant discount from the retail price.

The previous year’s C/K and Pro versions of the Tensei Orange shaft costs even less.

You won’t find a shaft that is the same.  I’d suggest just putting a WTB ad here and other golf forums for the 1K Orange. Should save ya a chunk over retail and you will have the driver you were fit for. Used it should be around $200.

At this time right now you should be able to source the head and shaft for less than what the new Darkspeed OTR would retail for.

To further back this up just checked Golfworks, tip prepped and butt trimmed and pured the shaft out the door is 380, and there's an in plastic head on ebay for 319.

If you want to completely trust the Bay beside the head there's the 50 1K new for 279 so it could be done for just a shade over 600 for raw materials brand new and then just grip, adapter and assembly at a local golf shop
