Hi All,

Quick introduction to myself as a new member.

34 year old from Birmingham (UK). Been playing about 5 years now and I’m currently off 18.8. Try and play every week but with a 2 year old, it’s getting harder to do this! Below is my WIYB at present so if anyone has any comments or recommendations for other gear, let me know!

Driver: Taylor Made Stealth, stiff shaft. When I was fitted for this my swing speed was about 109mph, unsure what I’m at now but it has been a few years since I bought it.

3 Wood: Taylor Made Stealth 2, stiff shaft. The only 3 wood I tried that I liked at the time, took a bit of time getting used too but I love the thing off the tee, horrendous off the deck but that is my fault!

Irons - 5/6/7/8/9/P: Callaway OS XR 2016, regular shaft. Had the shafts lengthened 1in as I was standing up quite a lot in my swing. I’m now looking for new irons as my swing has changed so don’t need the extra length, and they also feel quite heavy in the swing.

Wedges: 50°/54°/58° Taylor Made Hi Toe 3. Also had these clubs lengthened an inch. Fantastic clubs and don’t have a bad thing to say about them!

Putter: Taylor Made Spider 2016, red. My favourite club and it would take an exceptional putter for me to ever want to change. The weight distribution through the putting swing is brilliant and it is a god send on quicker greens as the club does the work.

Balls: Callaway Supersoft. Lovely ball to hit wedges with but not the longest in distance in my eyes, currently looking at changing and the Bridgestone E6 has been lovely on the two or three occasions I’ve used it.

Thanks for reading!

Great WITB and welcome!

Glad you found clubs that work for you and are ones you like. That's really all that matters in the end.

Will be curious to see what you end up with down the line for irons if you go the route of new or DTC or whatever else!

Joining has made me bite the bullet and I’ve booked a fitting session, these are the clubs I’m testing

Taylor Made P790’s

Ping i540’s

Titleist T200

Callaway Apex

I’ll put up a post after the fitting with my views but based on aesthetics, I’m leaning towards TM’s or Pings.

I'm gaming the P790's currently and love them, can't wait to see what you end up with.

I see your considering changing the ball you game too; I'd recommend that while you're doing your fitting, talk to your fitter to see if you can try a couple different styles/brands of golf balls while your there too. If they're a good fitter, they'll have several different types of balls ready to go for the fitting to try and have you set-up with the ball you'll normally use anyways, might as well use the time to see if the ball you want to upgrade too will be a good fit for your style or if there is a better type you should be using.

Yeah I’ll ask him mate.

i quite like the idea of trial and error though. Not good enough to spend the money on ProV1’s at present.

Hi guys, I'm Steve, I've been playing for over 40 years. Much if it for fun and recreation, with scores consistently around 100.  Then got into some work related golf leagues and true work level golf entertainment events.  The kind you always let the customer win by a stroke or two, but you can't make it obvious.  Which wasn't much of act (for me) as I was less than average.  Around this time (25 years ago) I bought my first real set of clubs Tommy Armour 855s with stiff graphite shafts and a Tommy Armour club bag. A huge improvement from my second hand cobbled set of cheap clubs and sun valley stand bag.  Now I looked the part of average golfer dude and started to take the game a bit more seriously. Continued to use Tommy's until two years ago when I again upgraded to Callaway Edge 10 piece golf set (yes the Costco ones) and started to play golf regularly (outside of work). 74 rounds of golf since October-2022 with 40 of those rounds in 2024. I've been using the SwingU app to track my game and have a handicap of 13.8 currently. Now for all the changes to my bag;

Base set are Callaway Epic Driver, 3W, 5h, 6-SW stiff shafts

Changes and Additions:

Driver: (fitted) PXG Gen5 7.5° Driver with 46" Stiff Project X HZRDUS Black GEN 4 and midsized MCC+4 grip

driver configured to D3 swing weight with 2.5g toe, 2.5g back, 10g heel and 8.5° loft (+1°)

3 Hybrid:  TaylorMade STEALTH 2 Plus Rescue 19.5° with Mitsubishi Kai'li Red HY 85 and midsized MCC+4 grip (red)

5H: Callaway Edge 25° stiff shaft

6i-PW: Callaway Edge stiff shaft steel

Wedges: Kirkland V2 set with oversized soft grips (52°, 56°, 60°)

Cleveland Smart Sole 4 Black Satin Wedge Gap GW 50° Aerotech SteelFiber i95cw Graphite Regular 35.25in

Putter: Odyssey White Hot Versa Seven DB 35" with Super Stroker Grip

Bag: Jones 5-pocket stand bag Trouper 3.0

Shoes: Adidas Tour360 and Footjoy Hyperflex

Ball: Vice Air and ProPlus (2024)

Total spend: $500 + $260 + $150 + $130 + $200 + $85 + $170 + $220 = $1,715 all in

Welcome!
