I am currently using Jumbomax Zenlite Smalls and loving them.  Over the last year and a half I have been messing around with different grips and wraps.  My hands and joints have been hurting more this year with the amount of playing and switching to the Jumbomax has taken tension out of my hands and joints.  The shot has actually improved and it's been a pleasant surprise.

I’m all in on Star Grips Sidewinder 360s. I tested about a half dozen different grips, with different wraps underneath and that’s where I came out. I blow on my grips, so it’s easy to test. I really prefer a midsize grip, but if I build up a standard grip with tape it feels really hard in my hand, so I prefer a proper sized Mid, with only one wrap of tape underneath. Not gonna lie, I like having color options too. I’m really hoping Star Grips release their neons in Mid. Right now I’ve got green on my wedges, blue on my irons, and red on my hybrids…just because.

I used to use standard size corded grips, and didn’t really know any different, but I far prefer a larger, softer grip.

The only exception is my Driver. I’ve got a black Jumbo Golf Pride Tour Wrap G2 on it. For some reason, that’s just way more comfortable on that club. I tried it on my shorter clubs and didn’t enjoy it as much.

I honestly love my jumbo grips from stargrips, and can't see myself moving back to below a +4 or similar oversized grip. And to be frank, if there was a midsized or plus size grip with a straight form vs taper, that would be perfect for me i believe. My hands and joints arent fatigued anymore either

I don't do my own grips because I would screw it up -

My preference would be Winn dritac LT's with 2 extra wraps - I have my pro do them for me because its free - it's funny because less taper should make them a bit hard to draw - I have no trouble drawing anything but I have a friend who has my old Stealth Driver in his back up set that he keeps down here - he thinks he over draws that driver because of the grip. 🙂

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

Did you all purchase Star grips and install them yourselves? I am hoping to get fit for some ZXi5s around the end of Winter, and did not know if they could be ordered from manufacturer and installed from factory or if I needed to order on my own and just have the clubs built with no grips installed and do it myself. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I do not have an air compressor yet, but once we move I plan to outfit the garage workbench with a vise and grip installation area so will definitely go that route and get the air tool

I use the Lamkin Sonar+ Blackout grips on all my clubs and do the installation myself.

With Lamkin selling to Super Stroke earlier this year, it was challenging to find these locally when a friend wanted his clubs regripped.

I did find a Lamkin distributor, located in PA that has an online store, (www.valuegolf.com) and bought an additional set to replace these whenever they wear out.

Played with them all year, well over 50 rounds, plus practice, and with cleaning and proper care they still look and feel as new.

I've really been contemplating on going up a size as I've always just used standard grips with one wrap. Obviously that Daly/Dechambeau episode opened my eyes, so I started researching. Going by the guides on the tube, grip websites I should be using a mid +4.

Earlier I stopped by and grabbed a MCC mid +4 and installed it on my 7 iron. I figure that's a good place to start and see if i like it. My usual miss is left, and from what I've read the larger grip should keep my hands from turning over. Plan is to hit some balls out back later and see what happens. If i like the results I'll swap everything out.20241029_111716.jpg.fb5cdd06898dbb39a62989c4cd51e3e9.jpg20241029_111723.jpg.0a8b28ba9911b936214ff717aa60fcad.jpg

I could be very wrong, but I think golfers in general are more particular about their grips now than years ago. Part of this I feel is that more golfers do their own grips so they can experiment and try new things to see what works best for them.

For me I like my Star Grips, but they are a bit too tapered so I do a series of wraps to reduce that reduce the taper. This also makes them just a bit larger than standard. However for me, it works.

So what is your preference?

For me mid size is correct but I do not have a preference regarding material-texture-design.

Posted

I have tried many different grips, materials, texture patterns, corded, not corded Dri Tac series, built up lower hand, and whatever else you can think of.

For me I have found that the Golf Pride CP2 Pro is what fits me best and holds up well. It has a reduced taper. For someone with longer fingers this really helps you get the right amount of grip force on the lower hand. Tapered grips would cause me to over grip causing the lefts. I'm right handed.

When my dad built clubs for me, he used Avon Chamois…these things tore up my hands when they were new, but they held up quite well.

My LW was well worn (no noticeable ridges anymore), but that thing still was tacky.

Those grips are darn near indestructible. I have run up on them on a lot of classic or semi-classic clubs. A little Dawn and a soft bristle brush and they clean up great usually.

My personal grips are Lamkin Crossline cords in standard. Even though I have extremely large hands I use standard grips because I hold the club mostly in my fingers. Now I do use GP Tour wraps on some of the classic stuff because I have so many of them. I used to salvage a lot of them from POS clubs in my scrapyard days. Super easy to get on and off with air. Now next year if I play the big Persimmon and blades event in Pinehurst whatever set I put together I will go with all Crossline Cords

Follow up, went out and hit maybe 20 shots into a couple greens with my 7 iron and that MCC+4 midsized grip. My usual miss when I swing hard was an over the top pull left. I tried to mimic that swing, no joke that bigger grip helped keep my hands from turning over.

If I would've been actually playing, I would've had at least 15 or 16 good birdie attempts. I'm definitely going to swap grips soon, but I might go with the Tour Velvet +4 since they're half the price as the MCC. All of my clubs have the velvet now, in good shape, butttt I like the feel of the midsize grip better.20241029_160034.jpg.4a0bd5996671ff4c6809894a83991a82.jpg

I use MCC+4's and love them, helps a ton on the larger grip size to reduce over-gripping the club. Don't be afraid to also add an extra wrap on the mas well to help with sizing if it still feels a little small.

I just got some samples of the Star Grips too, and I'm looking at using their Tour Star +360 Jumbo grip and I think I might use that on a few of my clubs as well; if you're interested in another grip option too look at.

Was browsing ebay last night looking for deals on grips. Came across this set. Identical to GP, but without the logo. Wouldn't surprise me if they're made in the same factory. I install grips with the logo pointed down anyway to have one less visual thing to distract me. I figured for sub $40 they'd be worth the gamble, especially the volume already sold and positive reviews. I'll update once I have them.Screenshot_20241031_080121_eBay.jpg.c3365664e75eb1a47e81a3cc1832d16b.jpg

So for right now it's Lamkin Sonar Wrap Calibrates with 3 wraps on all clubs, and a Lamkin Deep Etched putter grip. I do have in reserve two full sets of Pure DTX Midsize in Red, with two Pure Midsize Putter Grips in Red as well.

Here's my problem, I must have matching grips across the set from one brand. It limits some styles from me, but it's gotta match from Putter to Driver all the same brand.

Ugh, I'm the same way with matching grips. My fairways grips are only a few months old, same for my wedges, but they'll be getting replaced with the mcc+4's. Part of it is psychological, other part is knowing all the grips feel and react the same.

Matching grips on EVERYTHING but the putter, regardless of club brand,

and they must be "Wrap-type" grips since I don't wear a glove.

I'd probably do real leather if it were a factory option.

I've never had a problem with slippery grips for some reason.

You are spot on @GolfSpy_APH, being particular about one's grips.  I loved the GP Tour Wraps, 2G Jumbo.

About 5 yrs ago, I made a change in irons & shafts, going from Rifle 6.0 stiff to Elevate 105 stiff shaft & had the Jumbo Wraps installed on the Elevate 105 gram.  It was awful.  I could not feel the head of the club & couldn't figure out why.  Then, I got educated about grips by a Master Club fitter, and it opened my eyes.

By the process of elimination, I ended up trying out & SuperStroke Oversize grips with the Elevate 105 g shafts. 50-gram SS grips vs 76-gram 2g Tour Wraps.  It changed the feel of the iron being able to feel the clubhead. It took a 26-gram lighter grip.   It also inspired me to learn how to install grips on my own & experiment with the number of wraps for feel. I ended up scrapping the SuperStroke after having to regrip 2 times within 3 months because the SS grips would wear out.

I've tried Winn (which I'll never use again), Lamkin (I like the Sonar +), Golf Pride Tour Velvet, Tour Wrap & CP2 Pro & Wrap Grips.
I'm now using CP2 MID Wrap + 2 wraps for wedges, Tour wrap +2 wraps for Irons, Lamkin Crossline on Driver - with 2 1/2 wraps & the same for the 3 wd.  I put the 1/2 wrap at the bottom half of the grip, less to no taper.

Golf Pride CP2 wrap jumbo for me

Sim2 MaxD, Cobra F7 3W, Ping G400 5W, Ping G425 7W, Ping G410 5-UW, Volkey SM-9 54,58, Taylormade Spider Tour (this changes periodically)

That may or may not be good or bad.

20 years ago I was using Victory Cords and Tour Velvet Cords and would add two total layers of tape for the entire grip and +2 smaller sections for my right hand.  I never considered myself an early adapter however I was incredibly pleased to see manufacturers like Lamkin begin to make grips with a reduced taper.

The Lamkin Sonar has been my go-to for several years now.  I love the texture and they work well for me in the days when I can swing without a glove.  I was using standard size with 3 wraps and have since gravitated towards the midsize option.

There was a Sonar test here last season and it was nice to see several other spies seeing the great product receiving positive reviews.

Golf Pride Tour Velvet Align Tack. I only ever see the Tack version on the Golf Pride site but they occasionally run deals like the free towel shown here. I've used some sort of Align grip on everything but wedges and putter fora while now and the GP TV Align Tack are my favorite. Standard size, single layer double side tape, lots of good old fashioned solvent...bb8c9f6ea30a052abc2e149379b51aba.jpg

So these ebay grips showed up. Surprisingly they're actually branded, have legit wrapped stickers and all!!!! Super pumped I didn't spend $160 on a set, these were less than $40. If they're knockoffs, they're well done and no way to tell the difference!.....

Who is the seller? The least expensive 13 piece  MCC Plus 4 kits I see listed as sold are $48. The other sold listings average about $56 for a 13 grip kit.
