Thanks @GolfSpy_BEN for a great season.  Like most things, season 3 has come to an end.  So has the Stapleford Year End Tournament!

There was some great golf played over the three weeks.  Several sub-par rounds and best of the year rounds posted.  Congratulations to all those who made it to week three.  Everyone had to play some serious golf to make it.  However, there can be one winner.  Saving his best round of the year, the winner of this year's MGS year end Stapleford tournament is @Placasse61!

image.png.4f247a0dd0553b985550981761cabf01.png

Congratulations @Placasse61 on a great round!  He posted three net eagles and six net birdies to post the highest Stapleford point total of tournament.  Always great to save your best for last.

@Preeway's great final round, shooting par on the toughest course of the tournament, deserves special mention as well.  He had the second highest Stapleford point total of the tournament at 43.  Starting with a natural eagle on the first hole certainly had to be a highlight!  After those top two, it was a tight contest.

@dback, @Cfhandyman, @frazzman80 and the rest of the field had great rounds as well.  But, it's was @Placasse61's day.

Thank you for all who participated.  It was a lot of fun following your tournament golf posts over this season.  As you will find out from @GolfSpy_BEN, there are more special events planned for Season 4.  So, get that practice in and be ready for another fun season of MGS virtual golf!

Congratulations @Placasse61 - monster finals and an awesome finish!!!

Thanks @Golf2Much and @GolfSpy_BEN for coordinating and making this happen! It was a blast start to finish and I am proud to have been part of it!

To my fellow competitors, appreciate the banter and being pushed by an awesome group of golfers. Anytime you are down San Antonio way let me know and we’ll tee it up together.

Well done there @Placasse61

Well done all around ... 8 of 11 scores at 36 and higher is awesome .... then you had that 1 guy down at the bottom

Still bummed I couldn't get out last week to get a score posted, but such is life.

@Golf2Much @GolfSpy_BEN We can't say thank you enough for all the work, time, and energy that you guys did to put everything together this season and these tournaments. It's been so much fun to post scores and see other post some incredible scores. This place can definitely help drive the desire to keep improving

This looks so awesome. I'm trying to do the 3 club challenge for a round (my thoughts would be 5 wood, 7 iron, G wedge) .... might just be 9 holes, but should still be fun.

Final question is do we have to wait until April for this to start?

For Season 4, we will bringing a monthly series of tournament style events.

image.png

For the months of April and May, each week one of the 9 forum staff members will be posting a round in the VCT. For all those that beat that score, they will remain in the pool and advance to the next week. We will start with the highest handicapped staff member and progress each week until we get to the lowest. All those that beat the final mod, will recieve a "I Beat the Mods" badge.

June will see us return with a Match Play event, similar to the one we ran in Season 2. Details to come.

July will have our annual 2 person best ball event

In August, we are going to do a 1 week event, where everyone who wants to participate will have to play a round with a ball off of a pre-approved list. Imagine playing a round with a Callaway Warbird, and you start to get an idea of the concept.

For September, we will be doing a week where you can opt to play irons only or woods and wedges, there will be special badges for those that participate.

In October, we are going to run the Stableford Open back, as this was a lot of fun and pretty well received.

In closing, a heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of you that participated this year. You all are awesome! I look forward to what 2025 has to offer with this great group of members!

This sounds like so much fun!  Is this all via sim or real rounds?  I need to learn the rules too!

A nice thing about the regular play is you just post your round and see where you stack up! No stress or anything there as it is meant to just meant to be friendly competition.

I know for me and many others it gave as a real reason to go out and get rounds in even when we may not have been feeling so up to it.

I myself will probably picking the Irons Only option as well.  Wedges are getting better, but woods?  Mmmm, not so much.  Let's try to plan a round with you, @Vegan_Golfer_PNW and myself at least for a local exposition.  My irons have greatly improved this year, and by next September they should be starting to get dangerous.

I'll make an effort to accommodate your schedules and get up early to make the long drive to the west side for a morning round.  With enough planning I can make it work, 11 months should be enough. 😅

Ha I do believe in winter. I actually like snow, but just in little bits. Never have had to shovel a driveway, and I hope I don't ever have to.

Did get close 1 time. Back in February 2021, San Antonio got almost a foot of snow thanks to that Arctic Storm.

@Vegan_Golfer_PNW is the early riser. We can definitely do one of his daybreak rounds at Forest Hills. But we also need to get him to join us at least once for an afternoon of evening round. Hopefully we can get multiple rounds in as a PDX Spy group.

Would love to and will try to make something work. Fyi there are many other spies also from the pdx metro on here. I think we may have enough for at least 3 or 4 groups.
