DTC Driving Iron?

Anyone have experience with some of the Utility/Driving irons from DTC companies?

I have my eyes on either the Haywood or the Sub70 as of this point. Doesn't look like Maltby has any irons above 4 or that would be on the list as well.

I tested one from Caley last year and really liked it. From a customization standpoint it is limited. Great reviews on the Sub70 and it gives you the most options to customize. PXG also has an awesome DI. Takomo and Haywood also have good reviews but again limited customization.

We Would love to know what additional customizations you would be looking for that we don't offer so we can improve.

Right now, you can choose either an 18º or 21º option, offered in Silver and Copper finishes, offered in both RH and LH. Fully custom Loft, Lie and Length adjustments, multiple shafts in all flexes, and 15 ferrules to choose from.

I have the original Sub 70 699U. I like it so much instead of replacing it I reshafted it and it’s been great.

Mine was 23 and was bent down to 21 to fit the gap between my hybrid and 5 iron.

I game the Sub 70 3i 699 U ProV2 driving iron (17 degree). @Vegan_Golfer_PNWcan vouch for the fact that I love it. I got the KBS Max 80 stiff shaft on it. I was just out at the driving range tonight hitting it, nice long, straight shots. I would recommend it to anyone considering a driving iron. I know early next year Sub 70 @GolfSub70 is introducing the v3 of the 699. Worth checking if they are updating the utility as well.

I know Maltby is developing an updated driving iron that will come out on 2025 as well. No date announced yet.

Unfortunately that's the 1 club in the catalog that I haven't tried. I've come really close to ordering it in the past but just never pulled the trigger as the need for it in my bag isn't great. Wish I could be more helpful.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but Maltby actually has a designated UDI. It's a bit chunkier looking but it's got the mass and loft to really move the ball. It's forged too.

I was reading in the questions on there that a new version will be coming out in the beginning of the year. How could you pass up $69?!

I need to search if someone has reviewed it on here already. If not, might be time for me to order it...

Everything I have seen indicates the v3 update will include the utility iron!

I actually just canceled my order of the v2 and decided to wait for the v3. While I haven't hit the utility iron, I demo'd the Pro v2's last summer and loved them. I would have purchased them, but I got a really good deal on the Srixon ZX5's.

I will be near the front of the line to order my Sub70 699 Pro v3 Utility Iron.. likely in 17*.
