As a Canadian our golf season is about done. My course has punched the greens, closed up clubhouse but lets members still play. Wondering what people do to play in the cold weather. Last round I played was -3 degrees celsius with the wind or for the Americans it was  38 degrees fahrenheit. I was bundled up in multiple layers, played a softer ball, had a few leaf rulings.

I live in AZ. In January and February we get mornings in the low 30's. Up until this year I played in shorts, a mock turtleneck, and a rugby shirt. Most of my buddies had 2-3 layers including a jacket and pants. I have added pants this year as I can't walk 18 holes and have been using a cart. Hand warmer is useful. Play a softer ball, add 12 yards to compensate for summer yardages based on 2 yards for each 10 degrees. Using 100 degrees as the baseline summer temperature although it gets much hotter. Luckily or maybe not, we don't have trees that shed leaves to the extent that finding a ball is impossible. Actually, we don't have any trees that change color and shed leaves so that is disappointing. We play year round which is probably hard to hear when you have to shut it down for a number of months. Lots of Canadians in my retirement community.

Hope you have a place to practice.

There was a time when my friends and I would play all year long as long as there wan't any snow on the ground. Now I need the winter months to let my body recuperate and do my workouts so I can be ready to go when the weather starts to break in either late February or March.

I'm trying to decide what to do this winter. Last year, I didn't play up here in NE Tennessee between November and mid-February, but I did play during trips to FL in Nov and Jan. Fall was little milder this year, so where I didn't play at all after Nov 1 last year, I've played 6 times this month. It's going to snow the next two days, so I think I might be done for the year...maybe...if a decent day comes along, however...I'm going to at least hit the simulator over the next couple of weeks to get a some final data points to work on.

I've played more this year than I ever have, so I think I'm going to shut it down completely come December until after the beginning of the year and let my body recover.

Down here in Texas winter don't really stop us from playing, but it does require some pants and a jacket. This is mainly due to the wind, and the fact that come Jan. & Feb. It legit will be right around freezing in the early morning & evenings.

The bigger issue with trying to play in winter is finding daylight to play in, because it's basically dusk @5pm and dark by 5:45pm right now. So you get about 8 good hours in a day to play in, unless you're doing some indoor sim playing.

Here in Oregon west of the Cascades we can play year round.  Some courses get too waterlogged but there are plenty of courses that are playable the entire year outside of a few snow days. Daylight can be a challenge. I take a long lunch and play 9 holes in the middle of the day if the weather is nice.

I live just outside of Athens, GA, which is east of Atlanta. I play all year, I just bundle up a bit more. I'll also walk which helps keep me warm. If we get snow, a rare event, the courses will close and will close to protect the greens if there is frost on the ground and just open later that day when the frost is gone. Sometimes the courses are closed for the day due to frost, but that's also a rare event.

Ironically, I play with two guys that are from the upper mid-west originally and they won't play if it's below 50° because it's too cold.
