Strange Happenings

Ok, I’ve been playing golf for a long time now.  And every so often I get these bouts of “What the heck am I holding in my hands?”  The golf club feels completely foreign, my set up feels so wrong, and my shots aren’t what I expect.

It hasn’t happened yet this year, but I have a feeling it’s on its way.  I noticed around the green today practicing that I can’t stand the way the TM wedge looks… loved it last week, but now I don’t even want to look at it.  It has a very straight leading edge for a wedge that I absolutely ‘loved’ but today the 54° SM6 looked like the best thing I’ve ever seen with a little rounder leading edge… the 2° flat on the TM felt all wrong too.

Does this happen to anyone else or am I a weirdo…?

Yup, definitely a weirdo...  

I would say i have had a few clubs I've picked up from goodwill just didn't feel right.  And definitely a putter or 2 that I owned.

The only real time I've held a club and thought " why am I even holding this?" has been my 4i or 5i from my original set.

I have days that every club feels foreign and then I head for the house and start over the next day.

Sorry, I have to lean toward the weirdo side .   
 

I get that there are clubs we don’t like the appearance of and how visuals can impact the swing.  But if I have bought a club, the way it looks doesn’t change.   I may swing it poorly, by that isn’t based on looks.

Haha.  Josh gets it.  It is almost like I forget how to swing the dang thing.  Probably some sort of Golferitus that only happens to me.

Some days after 3-4 holes and already 6 or 7 over par, I think I should go straight to the bar and don’t pass go or collect $200.  

I am definitely thinking, do I even know how to play golf or is this an excuse to just go to the bar and watch TV?  Yup, I am weird too.

I'll have to disagree. At the other end of the player spectrum that particular strain of Golferitus occurs more frequently .. and more severely (or so a friend told me hahahaha lol). You're fortunate that with more golf time and more skills gains that you're forgetting what it was like.

You ace shooters are not immune, apparently. And I believe what @KC Golf said is the right medicine - hit The 19th, relax and come back refreshed another day!

Yesterday was the first time in many years that I didn’t make dumb mistakes.  In hindsight I probably should have taken driver on the hole I used my 2 iron on, but the miscues weren’t there.  No duffed pitch shots, a very good bunker shot…

speaking of bunker shots… I used my PW out of the sand and I love it.  I need to find a thinner soled wedge… or maybe just lower bounce.

That's one of the things Monte Scheinblum likes to make you try at his in person clinics - idea is to teach you to make a full and slow swing back and through

I’ve got the technique down, I’m just really shallow, like no divot ever unless I really made an error in my swing…. I just think that’s why I get along with blades, their lack of bounce works very well for me… so perhaps one low bounce wedge for bunker shots would be beneficial, probably the 58/60.
