Jimpo94 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I'm 49 years old and have had arthritis in my right big toe (I’m right handed) for the past several years. I believe I’m at the point where it’s highly likely I will need to have the toe fused sometime in the near future. For awhile cortisone shots helped, but they are no longer effective. I’m going thru the process of consulting with a few specialists to confirm my belief. All that said, I was hoping there might be members who have had this procedure done and could provide their feelings on the outcome. Specifically, did it eliminate (or significantly reduce) pain, were they able to continue to play golf and how was their game negatively impacted (if at all)? Thanks in advance for all responses, they are greatly appreciated!! Quote
hohjoe Posted November 13 Posted November 13 I used to run and hike a lot. I wore my big toes out and the joint in my right toe was destroyed. I had pain after hiking or long walks and finally went to the doc. I had a fusion. It has been great. No more pain and I haven’t had any ill effects. I can’t bend that toe and don’t notice that in the least. It zero effect on my golf game, walking, or hiking. I don’t notice the fusion at all. In the left big toe I had an artificial joint installed and it bothers me some, not often and it isn’t nearly as bad as it was. In hindsight I wish I would have had that toe fused.
