How to heat a cart in winter for my newborn

Recommended Posts

I'm planning to play up to a couple times per week on my paternity leave with a 4 month old baby. She's already made it through 4 rounds, 2 were 9 holes and 2 were 18 she just sleeps the whole time or just kind of chills while we play. As the weather starts to dip I have been trying to get a plan together for battling the weather when it's in the mid 40s and 50s, which here in KY would be often. Our club lets you borrow a cart for the winter and put on an enclosure for the whole off season, so I already have that. I was considering getting a Mr. Heater but I don't want to leave her in the cart while that is running and I'm hitting a shot, putting etc. I thought about getting an electric heater, but I think the good ones hook to the battery directly which would be off limits. I may get a battery blanket and put it on the seat so the heat can rise from the bottom.

I'm not sure what else might be a good idea, is there something out there that I haven't thought of yet? I can and will of course limit it to extra warm days if it's not feasible.

Working in the medical field. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you use a heated blanket be EXTREMELY CAREFUL. Ive seen bad things happen with those, i refuse to allow them on my bed. With infants you can actually look it up in some finnish countries they actually nap there babies outside in the winter and its better for there health as long as they are appropriately dressed. That means like a snowsuit, usually one thats like the sleeper/sleeping bag design were the legs are in one area not separated to keep warmth insulated and then a like fitted car seat blanket. As long as you check on the baby every now and then, then the cold actually helps with their sleep. The fresh cold air helps their breathing. A terrible quote our pediatrician told is a cold baby cries a hot baby dies. You can always remove layers but a heater or blanket dont always have controls that work correctly and their skin is so gentle that a difference of even a couple degrees can be the difference between a seizure or a burn

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

As mentioned above, the stroller attachment puffers and a good winter hat would suffice, especially with the cart enclosure. They are essentially sleeping bags for strollers and seats, and they will keep the little one plenty warm. My little girl is 20 months now and had no issues with these set ups pushing her on the course at a month old without being on an enclosed cart. There's plenty of brands depending on how much you want to spend!

Yeah maybe I just need to go the snowsuit route.  Thanks Gentlemen, I appreciate the insight!

Cart heaters I've used and seen are propane based. The Co2 from those aren't good for long periods in an enclosed space. I would go with the suggested route of dressing her as if you were taking her out to play in the snow or for a winter walk.

I agree with @PrismFlopper.  bundle them up better and they will be fine. Plenty of cold weather climates that have to take kiddos out in the elements and survive just fine without propane or something to heat short term.

For children, if you're going to use any type of heating element at all, which as others have said is not the safest option due to potential dangers, use an electric thermal heater. The thermal heater uses air flow over a heated ceramic plate so no toxins or flames.

Secondly, there's tons of good quality snow suits you can get your kids to keep them warm, but I'd recommend going with a good full body suit, and adding on the hat/toboggan, mittens, and shoes to provide overall full coverage. We got my son a Canada Goose Baby Lamb snowsuit to use for winter outings. It's expensive, but I'm never afraid of him being cold because Canada Goose is a damn serious brand when it comes to making stuff to survive the cold.

I never knew a Canada Goose to make it all the way down to Texas! 😂 That snow suit is awesome! Our daughter is only 20 mo old so it will be a while before we make a big clothing purchase for her since she is growing out of stuff in one season. I invested in a Parajumpers Right Hand Jacket, with the Coyote fur hood before they went all vegan materials, back when I lived in the mountains full-time. Now we are less than 45 minutes down the mountain and it hasn't gotten cold enough to really use it. Unless its 20F or below, it is just overkill, but it was such a meaningful purchase for me that I'll never let it go as long as it fits!

I'd wear the hell out of that even if it was only 50 outside, thats such an awesome Jacket!

And of yeah Canada Goose is down here! It's a good bit overkill for most of what we see down here lol but there is legit times here in Jan & Feb where it really is useful and perfectly fitting to bust out. Back in college I got a damn good deal on a used Chilliwack Bomber, which is how I first learned of the brand, that I use for hunting. Then when I went looking to find a place that would patch up some small rips in the fabric I actual find some local shops that sell the brand in Dallas, which is where I made the mistake of introducing my wife to the brand and why my 20mo old son has the baby lamb snowsuit lol.

I always recommend the brand when I can and it seems fitting to throw out such a pricey option. But, it's also pretty cool to say your wearing the same brand used by the Antarctic Circle explorers and the Alaskan Iditarod racers lol.

My FIL has one and loves it! especially the weight of it. The only downside to the Parajumpers is the weight. I have broke at least a dozen hangars with that thing. It is stout! But, the inner puffer jacket can be zipped out and can wear the outer shell as just a light waterproof jacket, so I got smart and keep both pieces on separate hangars haha Where we live now, my wife and I have become Barbour fans and I have the inner zip-out vest liners for when its right around freezing, but does the job and a timeless look!
