NC Golfer Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Do you just swing after a good back swing, have a hip bump or something else, as your first move down in the downswing? schooner44, Coulter and Rob Person 3 Quote
Vegan_Golfer_PNW Posted November 13 Posted November 13 (edited) Depends on your swing fault and what your body can accommodate. As of now my feel is straightening my trail elbow and then rotate thru with right side bend (I am a righty). Mind you I am already shifted to lead side by the start of my down swing. schooner44 Posted November 13 Posted November 13 A this point, I'm still focusing on the "simplicity" of the swing in order to be more consistent with good contact so I don't think about anything having to do with my body movement (shifting weight, etc). Instead, I just try to concentrate on throwing the club outward and downward with my right hand (right handed golfer) to create the proper path for my club to go. A former co-worker who shoots in the 70's said, golf is a throwing motion. But, I haven't had luck with it. Time to try outward and downward, thanks! Coulter and Rob Person 2 Quote

Thanks, Vegan Golfer. "what your body can accommodate" is important to me as a Sr golfer. Starting the downswing before the backswing makes sense but I will tweak my right/trail knee every time I try. Vegan_Golfer_PNW, Coulter and Rob Person 3 Quote

Time to try outward and downward, thanks! My instructor always says that you're hand should feel like it's tossing something underhand when you come through. If I think about that, I end up chunking my shots. This motion leads to a very similar motion. I think the outward throw is the key, I had tried a throw with a regular swing path and it spins the front hip/side open. Some have advocated throwing clubs in the past for practice. Goober Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Keep lead shoulder low in feel.Lets you go thru it aggressively without a fear of hitting it fat.And the feeling of going down at it with all you have is very powerful and accurate Michael.Sandoval33 1 Quote
Michael.Sandoval33 Posted November 20 Posted November 20 As I'm here 'air-swinging' in my living room, it seems the first move I make is to begin the drop of my hands while also beginning the turn of my hips. Everything else kind of falls through. Old New Golfer Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Your first move should be your feet. Pulling the power out of the ground. Up legs, hips, back, shoulders, arms, hands, to club. Start slow forward after backswing. Speed up. . Actually just a personal oddity. First thing I do on downswing is to cock my head to the right. Rob Person 1 Quote To be candid.... I would rather walk a field with a good Bird Dog, than to walk a golf course with people. Only problem is, I can't walk.
