Matching Wood and Iron Profiles?

Has anyone here had marked success, or found failure, in matching their iron shaft profile to what works for them in a driver or fairway wood?

I did some research on this on other sites.  Disagreement abounds.  I recognize that fittings for clubs is very personal and the different uses for irons versus woods.  But logically it still seems like this is a good place from which to start.

If you have tried it, did it work for you?
