Shankster Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Same as my last answer. Titleist. I’ve tried to get away from them with Taylormade, and other brands. There is just something about the brand that I really like. They either have a really good marketing team that has brainwashed me, or they produce some of the best golf equipment around. There is a reason why the ProV1 is the standard to which other balls are tested right? Second would probably be cobra. Although, their current and future options aren’t my favorite, they’ve made some really good equipment in the recent past. RichL85 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Adidas shoes. I've tried other brands, but Adidas just always ends up being the most comfortable for me. Srixon irons. Ever since the I-701, and probably even before that, they just make really, really good irons. Other brands make great stuff, but those two are ones I can always rely on to make a solid product and they are always on the list to try before I decide to buy anything. As far as balls go, Titleist is #1 for a reason and by a pretty wide margin, and if cost wasn't something I looked at, I would have no reason to look anywhere else. I know exactly how a ProV1x is going to react and play every time. In the real world, I'll use mostly the Maxfli Tour X because the performance difference between the two is not equivalent to the cost difference for me. SWINGWEIGHT Posted November 29 Posted November 29 All of them, with the exception of Mizunon, are crooks. They write fairy tales that are misleading and dishonest. As for example : - Ping with its 1O K MOI driver which " eclipses the 10,000 g-cm² combined MOI threshold" . Which threshold ? And their announced 10000 g-cm2, which simply couldn't exist, suddenly becamed a "combined "MOI after they were threatened to be sued. But well , by measuring MOI around 2 or 3 more axis, they could, as any other manufacturer , easily reach 50 K and more... - Taylor Made same as Ping - Titleist with a " powerful new engine inside" their GT 2024 drivers... 'meaning ou get the best possible distance and outcome from every swing" !!! - Callaway with its false and misleading "unmatched distance and 15% reduced dispersion" for their Paradym , and their AI Smoke irons which, no doubt, "increases distance by 6m, and reduce lateral dispersion by 15 %" Then , their every year announcement of technological progress which improves perforlmance is absurd. COR (now CT) ann MOI is limited by the USGA , and those limits have been reached years ago. So, OK, all those big brands divers have good heads , but this is not what matters. What will make the differences will always be , not the head, but the good fitting , for each golfer, of the 10 parameters that can be fitted on a driver. jaskanski Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Nothing until it's been validated! Genrally though, most of the major OEM's make decent enough products IF you can make them work for your game. The quest is finding and deploying them - once it works and there isn't a tangible difference in better performance in another product, then I guess you can swear by them. If you can get a long time servant that you're happy with - success! The biggest problem is every product cycle sows the seed of 'is this better?' Generally though (for me) things that you can probably swear by are: Ping putters Dynamic Gold shafts Titleist woods Titleist/Bridestone golf balls Wooden tees Golf pride grips Adidas shoes Tour Preferred gloves Coin ball markers The rest is always up for whatever works when it's required or you fancy a change. Hoyoymac Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Caddy Daddy Claw gloves are comfortable, breathable, insanely durable, washable and very grippy. Love them. Martini tees and SuperStroke grips are a constant. Maxfli Tour golf balls provide me the feel, flight, spin, trajectory and distance that I’m looking for at a great price and with consistent quality. I would play them even if they cost more. Tour Edge Exotics have had a spot in my golf bag for a long time. My best success has come from their fairway woods, hybrids and driving irons. Cobra drivers, fairway woods and hybrids have been excellent as well. Never thought that any putter could beat my Odyssey number 7. Then the Edel Array F2 putter came along. It is easier to aim and starts the ball on my intended line more consistently. It hasn’t been in the bag very long but it is so good that it dislodged the club that had been in the bag longer than anything else. BGT Stability Tour and ZNE shafts have been dynamite for me. KBS steel shafts have been in my irons for over a decade. The $-Tapers have been in my last three sets of irons. TPT Golf shafts were new to me this year courtesy of @MyGolfSpy and they have been a revelation. Best combination of performance and feel I’ve ever had for my Driver, Fairway wood and hybrid. That is saying something from a self confessed shaft Ho. Footjoy golf shoes and clothing just work for me. They fit me well. The shoes especially. Have dabbled with other brands but keep coming back. As a club building hobbyist, buying Corey Paul wedge heads and building the clubs myself have been the closest thing to getting one off custom clubs. The raw forged steel construction is easy to bend and to grind. Each of my wedges are tweaked to deliver what I want and need. They feel great too. Add in the stamping and finishes he puts on them and they are really something special. These are the things and companies that spring to mind. sirchunksalot Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I've always gotten along with Cobra having used two sets of both fairways and irons and have gotten great performance out of both. I love their willingness to go outside the box with their 3D printed putters and irons. I haven't had a lot of experience with Titleist with the exception of Vokey wedges and they'll always be at our near the top of my list when I go to buy a new set. I like FootJoy, Adidas, and Skechers when it comes to shoes. They're both comfortable, stable, and offer wide widths. drb1956 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 As far as footwear, I wear FootJoy. But, I wear the more conventional type shoes, because they fit well, and are true to size, especially with wide widths. With clubs, I believe in Cleveland wedges, especially the CBX line of wedges. They really work well, and I believe they would work well for anyone that has a fair short game. Up and downs are almost automatic with my CBX2 wedges! I also love my Cleveland HB SOFT(1st gen.)11c putter. Fairly stress free putting.. I currently use a Ping g410 SFT driver, and for me the "SFT" part is important, as it is very forgiving if your swing is not quite what it should be. You WILL be in the fairway a lot more.. Currently using Maxfli Softfli gloss yellow golf balls, which ARE a good value, for those of us that lose a few balls a round. The Softfli plays as well as the Callaway Supersoft IMHO! I have played the SS, which is a great ball, for a few seasons, but found these at DSG, and have played them since. Same compression, same soft feel, great distance. The 2fer deals make the Softfli a great deal.. The gloves I use are the PGASS store brand, PGA Tour gloves, which are a good value, and made well, and are very durable. Have been using these for quite a few years. I can usually get about 2 seasons for me out of a glove, as I only play about 20 rounds a sesaon. The ones I retire are usually still in pretty good shape, and I use them for practice on the range, or stretch them over another glove when it gets chilly.. I have a couple of Snake Eyes Viper hybrids, in 18*, and 21*, that I will probably never part with. They have been in my bag since like '03 or '05, can't remember. First clubs I played with "weighted" technology in them. You can set them neutral, draw, or fade bias. I actually bought them as components from Golfsmith, and put them together myself. They are still in one piece, and I have not changed, or had to to reassemble anything on them, except the grips. Set at a draw bias.. I don't buy into a lot of marketing hype with the equipment I choose. I do a little reading from the mfg., and read a lot of reviews, and go try them at a brick and mortar myself, when possible. It could take a few months before I make a decision to buy a piece of equipment, unless it is a brand that I trust, and even then, I do my homework first... Shannon Severson Posted November 29 Posted November 29 For me it is Ping and Titleist for clubs. Callaway is pure fluff for Drivers. Taylormade is hit or miss. However, when you do find a good Callaway or TM, stick with it. But that is the problem, they focus on Volume vs Quality. I have Callaway 5 and 7 woods, Big Bertha Titanium that you will never get away from me. They are almost 20 years old, but every time I try their drivers I either crack the face or they just don't keep the pop they have right away. TM, if you can hit their drivers I guess you stick with them. It really comes down to material. It seems anything made by anyone using Titanium seems to stick, but if they are using other materials, that is where you see the best. That would be Ping, Titleist and Mizuno Irons..... Cosmic Duffer Posted November 29 Posted November 29 The top end of my bag is all Callaway clubs - Driver and Woods for many reasons. And my putter is an Odyssey two ball original white hot- the best club in my bag and another Callaway product. My regular season ball is the solid Titleist Trufeel and my competition ball is either Titleist ProV1 or Callaway Chrome Tour or Chrome Soft.
