I don't have too many problems with old balls, they seem to like to run away. The forest, the water, nearby road, backyard.

Once the ball has a camouflage coating of tree marks and a surface full of 5 o'clock scruffiness I too release it from service.

Usually that covers about 3 holes... :)

Not the one I had. Basically they just spin the ball really fast so that you can draw a line around it that will include the heaviest point on the ball, I think. Like I said, it is consistent with itself, so that's good, but I don't know that modern golf balls are out of balance enough to have this matter.

Same here. It just spun really fast.

Scuffs never stop me! This past week I pulled out a ball that was 25% covered in cart path rash and played 4 or 5 holes in even par. Then I gave it a bath.

I'm really obsessive about my balls... wait, that didn't come out quite right....

What I mean is I don't like playing with cut or scuffed balls. I will banish them to the practice bucket/shag bag if they have too much of a mark on them.

At what point is the shag bag "full" and then what do you do with the other balls?

Fill a pocket in your bag and blast them at the driving range? :)

I'm the complete opposite, I use my balls until the are lost.

I tried the line for a little while, but it would mess with my head a little in the fairway. Now I try and line the ball up so that the side with no markings is facing up when I putt, that way I can trust the line that I picked and not worry about whether or not I got the stamping/line pointing in the right direction.

I did for a LOOOOONG time. Then I read a putting tip that said that too many people focus on the line on the ball instead of putting to a spot and getting the ball online. I thought I putted well when using the line, until I switched back. My putting improved dramatically, both in getting the ball on line and getting my pace right. Now I only mark my ball for identification purposes.

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I extend the model mark just a bit on each side, and circle the number. Blue sharpie. If playing Callaways, I turn the chevrons into peace signs.

I like having alot of ink on the ball, it provides great feedback on where the clubface strikes the ball.

I use the line to line up the putt, but still putt to a point on the green.

It might be because im young, but i always use the line, unless its a tap in, in that case people who do that just slow up play. I line it up to where i think is good, and then if i feel that its wrong i will adjust accordingly when i am over the ball.

That's the same thing I do... mark the ball, line it up, take one practice swing, look it my line from over the ball, adjust as needed, swing...

For me it is more about the routine than it is the line... if I am rushing and don't line up the ball, I ALWAYS miss...
