RoverRick
Now that I have listed these I am expecting overwhelmingly one sided votes but we will see. We already have done the Rookier of the Year poll, and since only one of the rookies made it to the Tour Championship, and although he finished 29 out of 30, I think John Huh has the ROY wrapped up. Rory can not be rookie of the year, because he was a PGA Tour member in 2009 and 2010, but not 2011. I guess you could say he is a comeback player since he came back to the PGA Tour. But "Comeback" POY goes to someone who has reemerged as a winner from injury or just from a long time without a win. This year we have Tiger of course, and we also we Eric Compton who had a second heart transplant, and we have Ernie Els, who had a putter transplant. "Breakout" POY, I am not sure if it is a real category but then I decide to include it. And finding the choices were not that easy. It was not hard to find one person but it was hard to find only three people. A lot of them have been playing great for two years so I dropped them but it seemed like these three, or one of these three was in the hunt on Sunday every week. So vote and discuss. Kanoito
Despite how much I dislike Rory, he's had a tremendous year. So POY no doubt... Tiger is a close second. Tiger would be my choice as Comeback POY, obvious reasons. Snedeker as the Breakout POY. If Dufner had done something at the Playoffs, it would be a tough call... but somewhere in the middle of the season... he just vanished. EDIT: Actually, I change my vote from Snedeker to Dufner. You are right, Snedeker has been floating around the last couple of years. Dufner was a brand new surprise! BK in TEXAS
I had to give Duffner the "breakout" player of the year. He deserves it. Good poll, Rick. RoverRick
Yeah, Snedeker has been around since 2007 when he was Rookie of the Year, and then he had a win last year and several top 10's but I did not expect this type of finish from him. He was there during the big events it seemed all year. But Dufner and Stanley were there a lot also. Stanley could easily have had a three or four win year. These guys are good. Aotearoa_Brad
Rory, Tiger, Dufner for me. I'd also be interested in a poll on the choke of the year, there's some pretty good options there, but none beats Adam Scott for me (and I have a PhD in the subject...) RoverRick
I did not know this but Snedeker could also have been in the Comeback category. He had major hip surgery last year. But heck, we had barely heard of him last year. RoverRick
In Rory's press conference at the Ryder Cup he said that this week he was not number 1. He was 1 of 12 and was happy to play when ever and whom ever the captain choose. Pretty cool he has that attitude. RoverRick
I should state that if I were to select based on dealing with and overcoming obstacles not of your own making, basically overcoming the odds of being dealt a sh*tty hand in life, it's Compton, hands down. Tiger's "comeback," though he has risen from the ashes, the only reason that he had the flameout & subsequent fall & rise is because of his own very poor life decisions. Decisions & actions well with in his control, he just made the poor ones. And while I really, really like Ernie, if he had never won another tournament, he had a hall-of-fame career. This is just extra icing on a super rich cake. No, in the truest sence of overcoming the odds of an event(s) totally out if your control, there's only one man listed who's done that. My revised vote is for Eric Compton. Fairways & Greens 4ever Tiger's comeback is from injury not scandal. The scandal stuff was blown way out of proportion IMO. Ok so he said he was taking time off to work on his marriage, but lets face it, it was probably obvious very early on that was not going to work out. The rest of the time was injury related. And like it or not, he decided he needed to change his swing because obviously his body could not take the stress of the old swing. GolfSpy WD
POY: Rory had this in the bag even if Tiger somehow won the Fedex cup. CPOY: Tiger goes from winning always to never winning to winning 3 times in a year. How is that not the definition of a comeback? Eric Compton is an awesome story, but what has he come back from? I can definitely see him as a nominee for breakout player of the year though. BPOY: Between Sneds and Dufner, it's a really tough call. Majors: Masters: T19 and T24 US Open: N/A and T4 The Open Championship: T3 and T31 PGA Championship: CUT and T27 In terms of years, I'd say Sneds had the better year because he won on the bigger stage. How do you definite breakout player though? Sneds already proved he could win twice on tour prior to this year. This year was the first time Dufner won, and he did it twice. I guess for that reason I'd pick Dufner, but not without hestitation. @GolfSpy_WD
RoverRick
BTW, Rick, that's really cool what ya did with the 11 in your sig. Can I do that, or do ya need something special? Fairways & Greens 4ever I had a yeti do it for me. I just highlighted the different words and the clicked the A with the paint brush on the top of the control bar. Siravo82
Nw to the site so sorry if I repeat what everyone else has already said. Rory is POY hands down. Three wins and a major would be hard to look the other way. He's had a phenomenal year and might do what Luke did and win both money titles. Tiger is a sure lock for comeback player of the year. The past three have been horrible for him and at some points of this year we saw flashes of the old Tiger. With some better weekend rounds he could have easily netted 5-6 wins with a few more majors.
