SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted September 27, 2012 SPY VIP Share Posted September 27, 2012 Irons Created by Callaway's design guru Roger Cleveland, Legacy Black Irons feature a slightly compact head and employ Callaway's Tour CC (competition conforming) grooves – found only in our premium forged products. This proprietary design adds 40% more grooves on the clubface through tighter spacing, which delivers increased spin for more aggressive shot-making. The irons are created from Triple Net Forged 1020 Carbon Steel, with the Triple Net Forging delivering tighter tolerances and consistency, whilst the Carbon Steel delivers soft yet solid feel through impact – something that cannot be duplicated with a cast stainless steel product. Woods The all-new Legacy Black Titanium Driver, sporting aviation grade titanium and a powerful black PVD finish, is a product underpinned by its ability to create exceptional speed and power on every shot. A highly refined chemical milling process that removes unwanted weight from both the crown and face of the club, allows for the centre of gravity to be perfectly positioned and the Driver's powerful trajectory is subsequently geared to the more accomplished player seeking Tour-standard results. With Forged Hyperbolic Face Technology delivering a precise, thin contact surface for consistently high ball speeds and the forged construction of the head giving additional responsiveness, Legacy Black is engineered with aggressive, results-driven play as a focus. #TruthDigest

furu
Really looking forward to these irons. Callaway also has another forged iron on the way that´s supposed to be amazing (never heard that before). Sang Moon Bae has used the driver on tour. Ice
To Americans, all the cool stuff is in Japan (a lot of it doesn't even conform with the USGA). xxio
To Americans, all the cool stuff is in Japan (a lot of it doesn't even conform with the USGA). To the Japanese, all the cool stuff is over here. Not anymore at least not for Golf equipment. The Japanese golfers are loyal to JDM products. Tourstage, Srixon, Paradiso, Mizuno, etc. That is why the major OEMs have Japan only products. They have to cater to the "exclusively Japanese" mindset of the market over there. If they didn't have the Legacy, the Burner forged irons, the Gliore lines they wouldn't be able to make inroads into the Japanese market. They make a presence with the Japan exclusive lines, then sell the "lower" end-mainstream market products.

My bad, the link I followed defaulted to a Japanese site. They are quite expensive at around 1500 for a 6 club set. furu
Same price here in Norway, $200+ per iron.
furu
Wow! That's another problem with Cally products. They're outa the ballgame price wise. The Diablo Forged were a damn nice club.... However, not at $1100/set. Compare them at that price to the other $1000-$1100. Not so nice then. Fairways & Greens 4ever They are expensive compared to other irons but I think they´ll sell well here for that price. Razr XF cost $200-220 per iron and I think it´s actually easier to justify that price for Legacy Black. Excellent quality in every club in that series. Our prices on golf equipment are at least 35-40% higher than USA.
GolfSpy WD
First thing I've seen from Callaway in a long time that I really like, but holy moly, $1100 for a set? I hope they come with a certificate for a nice hand job to repay what Callaway is doing to the buyer. @GolfSpy_WD
joro3743
These are the same Irons that Henrik Stenson has been taking it all with. Of course Henrik is a bit better than the average consumer.

MoreBeerBetterGolf
I really don't understand all the whining and crying over the prices these companies charge for small run premium irons in another country. At the time these were released, the Yen was much stronger than the dollar which played a role as well. If Callaway does things like any normal business, they try to make a percentage of profit above their costs. They aren't jobbing the consumer or ripping anyone off. The irons cost a lot to design and make, for a country where everything is very expensive. I'm just tired of all the price handwringing going on around the forums right now. Seems like everyone expects the best R&D, technology, materials, and looks for the price of a set of store brand knockoffs.

The irons cost a lot to design and make, for a country where everything is very expensive. I'm just tired of all the price handwringing going on around WRX right now. Seems like everyone expects the best R&D, technology, materials, and looks for the price of a set of store brand knockoffs. Isn't that the point of open markets, for consumers to push against companies when they put out something well above market standard price? Sure, R&D costs a lot, but a lot of that applies to all their irons and so much of it is a sunken cost. To imply it costs a lot to manufacture the clubs is a bit of a stretch, even with their special super forging technique with big words that sounds like a lot of other forging techniques when you parse it. With a price tag like that, they're starting to compete against Miura, which I'd prefer by far. Of course, I'm of the opinion Miuras are excessive, which by extension means these are excessive. More power to anyone who feels it is worth it for them though. Callaway isn't stupid and knows limited releases, with I'm guessing high margins, sell well to certain markets. @GolfSpy_WD
