SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted March 23, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 23, 2010 You can NOT take these things anywhere on the grounds of the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA: Cell Phones Bags, Backpacks, Purses, Packages Beepers/Electronic Devices Cameras Weapons of any kind (regardless of permit) Alcoholic beverages Beverage containers/Coolers Flags/Banners/Signs Folding armchairs/Rigid type chairs or stools Ladders/Periscopes Radios/TVs/Tape Recorders Strollers Walkie-talkies #TruthDigest
bp4455
Most tournaments have a restricted items list such as this but it doesn't prevent people from bringing stuff in. The folks at AN are probably better at enforcement. Semper Fi My Club
jamo
The not having cell phones and cameras is IMO a little over the top. Are they worried about flashes or do they just no want people taking pictures of the course?
SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 23, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 23, 2010 No ladders? What tyrants. Cell phone/camera seems very difficult to enforce though. No backpack to carry water, sunscreen, and extra clothing to address changing conditions seems lame. bp4455
A lot of tournaments prohibit those folding chairs you carry in a shoulder bag but people walk right through and nobody says anything to them. Semper Fi My Club

mudfish
I know the Turning Stone Championship didn't let anyone in with anything either... pretty much the same list, and it was enforced I know I was searched twice... once getting onto the shuttle from the parking lot, and once at the main gate... I actually saw them turn people away at the door for having cell phones... One of the security dudes said the reason was twofold... they don't want cell phones going off in the middle of the pro's backswing, and there are TV rights and they don't want any unauthorized videos... NGage
If you do have any of those prohibited items, they will kindly rent you (for a very reasonable fee) a locker to store them. Oh...and some of those are only prohibited for the actual tournament. What pissed me off, was I couldn't take my small video camera bag in...but then I get in and there's women with purses so big that it looked like they were planning on camping out on the grounds for the week. SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 24, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 24, 2010 The open list specifically says no purses too. It seems like the most spectator controlled event I have ever read about. Thinking of MLB and NFL, they know that you are outdoors and may need stuff like outerwear and sunscreen and maybe something to put it in as you walk around. I can only assume that all of that stuff is for sale and you can buy what you need each day Volvo Intorqueo All the cool kids follow me on twitter: @GolfspyDave If you are not a cool kid, following me on twitter will make you cool... As for supplies -- they will let you carry in the folding chairs only if they are Masters chairs from years prior. And...any supplies you need are actually very reasonably priced. jamo
The no cell phone rule is kind of ridiculous to me. What if you get separated from your ride, that would suck. I would just make sure everyone had it on silent. Then again, people suck at policing themselves on this at the movies, probably not much better at a golf tournament.
