What golf ball do you use and why?

 

I use the Srixon soft feel mainly because I get good control from 8 iron through to lob wedge.

Wilson Staff FG Tour. Plays like any other tour ball, soft off putter and excellent wedge control. Little to much spin off driver and not as durable if any complaint. I'd play other balls but these were $20/dozen beginning of season so it's this years ball.

Recycled ProV1x bought in bulk. I think I paid $130 for 100 balls. They aren't nearly as durable as Bridgestones, but can't beat the price.

TaylorMade Penta (old or new), Wilson FG Tour X, and Bridgestone B330 or B330-S. I'm fortunate enough to have been able to test them all and these are the ones I like the best.

I also really liked the Srixon Z-Star in yellow, but the course stole all the ones I had and didn't give them back.

I've started to play the Titleist Velocity. Man is it a long ball off the tee. It works around the green for my game, it took a little bit to get adjusted to the extra roll, but all good now.

Which Bridestone is closest you FG Tour?

Bridgestone E5. I like them because they are an affordable ball that still spins pretty well.

Titleist Pro V1x - it's consistent, I can pick them up anywhere if needed, and my local shop sells the "seconds" for half the price - I play them all the time, if I lose them I don't get as pissed.

 

If I had the extra cash, I'd play Callaway Hex Chrome

I like ProV1x's, dont know why, i just feel confident with them. But i also will playing anything i find in the bushes, becuase im not picky and honestly i cant tell the difference between a B330, penta, or prov1. I can only tell the difference between crappy balls and premium balls.

OK I play the 20 xi-x which I will tell you is on sell right now on rockbottomgolf.com for only 24.99 so I bought two boxes. I seem to get less driver spin off them than the nxt tour balls. During the cooler days here in WV I go with a harder ball like the TF V2's which is a good ball as well.

ProV1. Thinking of trying the Bridgestone B330-S in the yellow. Man you can see those things a mile away.

Neither, the FG Tour X was a super ball for me in LM testing: more wedge spin and less driver spin. It was the best of the B330 and B330-S.

Bridgestone E5. I like them because they are an affordable ball that still spins pretty well.

 

+1 for the e5. If I'm lashing out, the B330-RXS because it's like an e5 on steroids.

I've been playing the Callaway Hex Black most of the year, also playing the Bridgestone B330-S balls that I won. I was playing the Penta before that, and I like the ProV1 fine. With a few exceptions, I can't tell a huge difference between the multilayer tour balls, my main criteria is the feel and spin I get with the short irons and wedges and Callaway for the last several years has been my favorite. I usually wait until I see a good sale on one of several models I like and that's what I play!

I have been playing the Cally HX Diablo Tour, since I got 4 dozen last year for $10/dozen. I have also played Srixon AD333 as my Daughter gave me 2 dozen last winter. Both balls get the same distance, but the Diablo Tour does stop better on the greens....The AD333 was great during the rainy season as the greens were softer.

 

I also played some Warrior golfballs this summer as I got 3 dozen for $20 last Spring....

 

Then, while in Myrtle Beach, I got 2 dozen Wilson Zips for $14.

 

But Friday, I tested the Titleist Prototypes and now am thinking I should go back to playing Pro V1x's.....I love their spin and ability to stop on the green.

 

Right now, my garage has a sizable sampling of many golfballs. I even have a couple Vision balls from Australia left.

Been playing the Srixon AD333 for years. Cheapish ball that does it all. Kidding aside. I just tested a lot of balls back then, even took a bridgestone fitting. But the srixon felt best for me off the putter and with chipping, so soft. And for some reason I can't explain in rational terms, there is no doubt in my mind when I'm over my Srixon ball, total confidence. So I love 'em to death.

This just reminded me of something funny. My grandfather was an avid golfer, he retired at 55 and played 3 times a week until he died at 85, he would have fit in well here.

 

When we cleaned out his basement, we found at least 75 brand new boxes of golf balls along with a 5 gallon bucket of tees, stacks of brand new golf gloves, groove brushes, ball retrievers, push carts, headcovers, you name it! It was a lifetime of crappy golf gifts from kids and grandkids that had no idea what to get their grandpa for a present! Now I find myself with my own stack of stuff accumulating. I guess I need to give that stuff away to someone that might use it before my daughter has to clean up my golf pile!
