Iron Refinishing

Recommended Posts

Alright folks, I picked up a set of 1976 Wilson Staff blades. Heads only, $35! Before I have them shafted I'd like to refinish them. I'm not sure if it's something I'll do myself or take in, though from what I gather it's not cheap. I'm not really looking to go all out and make them look new again, I just want them to be cleaned up really well. Does anyone know anything about forged iron refinishing? I'd like to not grind or sand the original feel of the club just to make it look amazing. Is that even possible?

Any tips (or warnings) would be greatly appreciated! Let me know if I should do this myself or take this project to someone who does it for a living.

Thanks! I'll post pics of the heads as they are when I get back to MN after Christmas.

There's a couple of topics posted about it if you're interested in a gun blue finish. RoverRick just did a set. If you're talking stripping and re-chroming, that's not a DIY project.

Thanks for the links. I've done a bit of reading and I don't think this will be a DIY thing. I may just have them polished. Either way, I really can't stop thinking about what they'll feel like when I have the shafts built up. I mean, everyday I google "1976 Wilson Staff blades" and I get excited to hit them.
