I striped the old paint and applied a light coat of 2k direct to metal primer then 2 coats of Sem hot rod black. The same stuff I paint Rat Rods with. I have a heated paint booth so it doesn't take me long the two pictures are taken about 45 min apart.

What's a heated paint booth? Is that some special way to apply paint or is this a simple DIY? I could definitely see myself doing the same, probably starting with my 910H.

I paint cars for a living so it a paint booth with a oven so I can bake it at 150 degrees once I paint it. You can do it without a booth it just takes longer to dry.

When I say "home" I mean home shop as opposed to specialize auto body stuff. I've done planty finish spraying with both regular paint and catalyzed finished like Campbell's Krystal

You would need a spray gun for this paint but I think you could find Somthing it a spray can It might not be as durable but it could be done. If you are ever in Los Angeles I do it for you.

Then yes it's just a 2k catalyzed paint othe than a spray gun and a compressor no special tools needed oh and a mask.

Yep. I do a lot of woodwork with funky imported woods that I really don't care to have in my lungs...I got in the good habit of wearing a mask all the time.

 

Hey....any particular brand of paint to use? Or even a link where to buy some? I'm going to give this a go on a beat up R11 head I have laying around

I buy from our local supplier. But Tpcglobal.com is a good place to buy from they have hot rod flatz paint that's pretty good.

You have inspired me to give this a shot. I purchased my supplies today and hopefully I can get started tomorrow or maybe Friday.

 

My question is how you removed the paint first. Is it all sanding? Or will acetone work or tal-strip work? I've never tried to remove paint from something with a clear coat on it so not really sure on the process or if it's any different..

Thanks Whiskey. I haven't even baged it since I painted it the old cobra went in while this one cured and now it's staying in.
