My customs officer experience was when I was 8 and the only male in my group. We were leaving Munich Germany, in 1972. Perhaps you heard, Palestinians killed 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team. Well, 3 days later we are going through the airport where German Police with machine guns, technically sub machine guns but I did not know the difference at the time, separated male and female and subjected them to pat down searches by humorless Germans. I was 8 and taken into a different room than my mother and sisters and I remember it being terrifying and was happy to see them again moments later.

 

Every since then I have been especially considerate to Customs Officials.

Short version -- Customs man asked me what I was doing in Canada, told him I was going to conduct a training class for heating professionals.

 

He wanted to know everything about the training, what kind of products, where did they come from, was I bringing equipment with me, where was the training going to be held, how long was it going to be, who was organizing it, did I have any names. He finally hit a question that triggered my inner wise-ass:

 

Customs Guy: Well, why isn't someone from Canada doing this training?

 

Idiot from Minnesota: Guess there isn't anyone in your country qualified. Heh, heh.

 

CG: Sir, you're going to go see the Supervisor.

 

Supervisor wanted to see my Work Visa. Didn't have one. If I was staying longer than 2 days, she would have sent me back.

 

That line from the Arlo Guthrie song kept going through my head..."Don't check my bags, if you please, Mr. Customs man...."

I recall telling a customs officer in Raliegh that I was there for a training session at a R&D facility. He didn't want to let me through as I might find out trade secrets that could hurt America in the future. Luckily his supervisor came over and sorted it out right quick.

But as of right now I will be here and available, weather permitting. I can also round up a fairly nice set of sticks if you do not bring your own. I listed them in the Fort Worth Course thread.

Okay, here's the rub. I'm going to go all out and try to work out a way to make a few extra grand between now and June so that I can represent (even if my "game" is limited to contests on the 19th ). There's a bunch of sporting stuff that I haven't used in years that'll be sold and that's a start, but I'm on the lookout for ideas - any suggestions will be welcomed... I'm desperate to be in attendance because this looks like its shaping up as an event not to miss!

 

We also need to put more thought into the New Zealander funding folks. Nidine and I don't have a house so we can't supply sleeping accommodations either....

I will totally ignore that comment that just begs for something rude and sexist to be said.

 

But look at that swing, notice how well it looks like Mrs. MBP has already turned, weight on the left side, hips turned open, head behind the ball and the straight left wrist and arm. Mrs. MBP is a bomber, boys, do not let her fool you. I would play with her any day.

 

 

By the way, I separated my clubs into two bags, the black clubs and the white clubs.

Nidine and I don't have a house so we can't supply sleeping accommodations either....

 

Now wait a minute, one of the best things about this trip was the thought of slobbering all over your guest pillows and sharing a good morning fart in your house.

 

I will say this, while you posted pictures of many beautiful course that I would love to play, we could meet in Slidell Mississippi and play the local muni course and it would still be as much fun. While playing those great courses would be awesome, playing together is the bigger deal. And I am not opposed to going anywhere and staying at some golf resort type place and playing the same course several times.

 

I realize this is blasphemy on this thread to say this but it is about the comradery first and the golf second. Not that I do not want to come and play those courses, but if there are options as far as I am concerned. But I do not know about my schedule anyway so who cares what I think.

Just heard back from my Canadian rep - they're looking at the week of June 3rd for their Vancouver meeting. Don't know if you're thinking of a date yet, but if the overwhelming concern is for what what would be the most convenient for me....
