The 2 iron is a prototype for one, the wedges are stamped Rors, that's his Scotty, and the pics were snapped during his practice in Dubai of his bag that he was getting clubs out of.

He has 2 putters right now. The Scotty is still there and he's got a Method as well.

They mentioned his "equipment change" on the Morning Drive this morning, but they didn't say anything other than that.

I really hope the change doesn't affect his game as it has for so many others...not a risk free proposition

The only thing he seem undecided is the putter and IMO that matter most when it counts.... USD250million is one heck of a sponsorship deal. Guess he is set for life

WD, I don't know that that's the Combo set, cuz other than the CB long iron at the top, everthing else looks to be a MB, and he played the Titleist MBs.

 

I'd be amazed if he went to a CB, though I guess though Choi goin from to the G series Pings was pretty amazing, so hell, anything's possible, lol

It's still a combo set, but just barely. From a marketing perspective, I'm sure this is intentional since only 1% of golfers can play a full blade set, especially with the longer clubs.

Yup...and even those who can don't always do it. Tiger was using a VR-S 3i last summer.

It's actually not a combo set. They prototyped that 2 iron (which isn't available to the public) and slightly widened the sole like his 503.i

But I know how I'd react if I were on the first tee playing with two guys whom I'm longer than and they both bust their first drive 20 yards past me. I wouldn't be thinking, "I got that one in the heel." I'd be thinking, "Is my other driver in the trunk and can I pick that one up at the turn?"

When you go look at the Nike Pro Staff on their site, you will see that last years' PGA Championship was won by a Nike Staffer.

All the way back to 1968 when a Nike Staffer won the Southern Amateur.

 

Never mind the fact that there were no Nike clubs in any of those bags at the time of those victories. However, if you did not know that you would get the impression that Nike has been in winners bags for decades.

 

Do not misunderstand me. Nike does not claim to have won those tournaments. They are simply listed as wins by Nike Staffers. However, the tournaments that were won by Justin Leonard while he was actually using Nike equipment are not listed. There may be more but I do not know them.

Of course it's not the equipment - Oh wait a minute this is MGS - it must be the equipment

 

I have little doubt in Nike's ability to replicate equipment requirements for Rory or anyone else - what it can't do is get into Rory or anyone else's head the first time there's a bad shot to remind the player - your equipment is fine - you just made a bad swing on that one - go, hit it again, roll in the putt, take your par and make birdie on the next one.

 

We all know how this song goes, bad shot begets doubts in the mind begets bad shots begets thoughts of I hit that old driver so well or I made so many putts with my pal Scotty.

 

It's happened before - I'm reasonably certain that Rory will hit some got shots under pressure with his new equipment sooner rather than later and that he'll be just fine.

 

But this sure gives us something to talk about doesn't it.

We all knew the first time Rory had trouble it was going to be the equipment's fault. This just proves that the masses are as fickle and easy to influence by the media as we all thought they were.

The most important question is whether or not Rory thinks its the equipment - so long as he knows its not he'll be fine, once/if ever that seed of doubt comes in, well then we all know what happens because I'm guessing that all of us have been there, done that.

 

My old irons have made their way into my bag twice since the beginning of October. Of course the real issue was a set up flaw but then that would be on me rather than on the clubs.
