New Putting Stat: Putts Gained

As you may have seen elsewhere, the PGA Tour is going to be adopting a new putting statistic soon. This new statistic is called "Putts Gained" and it is designed to give a more accurate picture of putting prowess. Putts per GIR is a flawed statistic because it gives an advantage to those who hit the ball close to the hole. Putts Gained takes into account the difficulty of the green and the distance of the putt. It's pretty cool stuff, and if you've got some time, here's the 50 pages paper that explains the whole thing.

Unless you're set up to do some serious math (and have a ShotLink team following you), you don't need to worry about this one.

The program that I use for the stuff in my signature is talking about adapting it.
