jaxbeachpackerfan
I was surfing around yesterday and came across this photo essay on the 10 most expensive tee times in the US. http://www.golf.com/photos/10-most-expensive-tee-times/pebble-beach#328851 In going through it, I noted that I had played three of the 10. Then got to thinking, gee, I've played a LOT of rounds on two of the courses. Used to live 40 miles from Whistling Straits and had an ex that loved the American Club and playing nice courses plus a golfing client that loved being entertained at the best courses (and a big enough client that my former firm had no problem entertaining them), so I must have played the course over a dozen times. Firm payed the client rounds. Last time I played Whistling was over 6 years ago, so I don't think I ever paid over $300 per round on my own and ex I remember gave me at least a couple of rounds. Played Cascata last April while being a convention spouse. We were put up at the Paris, a Caesars casino, so was able to play for $350 including caddie. A lot, but our trip, room and meals were paid for, so not too bad. Then, as a member of TPC Sawgrass Valley course, we get to play the Stadium at reduced rates (usually $50) at various times. I've been down here 8 years and probably play the Stadium 5 or 6 times a year. Plus, in my prior life, vacationed down here four years and played the Stadium each time. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to play a couple of these courses multiple times at minimal cost. Still got to do Pebble Beach, and I'll pay full bore to do that. Had to pass up a corporate outing on Shadow Creek back in '03 'cause it was only a couple of months following my back surgery. whiskey golf
Some of those courses I have to play at least once while because of who's played there and due to their history while some I could care less mainly because they're just expensive for the hell of it, particularly the ones in Vegas. I'm sure those Vegas courses are nice but if I was going to pay roughly the same prices for either the Winn Hotel or Pebble Beach, I'd pick Pebble. apprenti23
I've only played cascada and straits- shot 67 at cascada being 5 over on the par threes- I left my 7 iron at home and I swore every par three required a 7 iron that day with down wind, into wind, etc. that round was pretty crazy considering I hadn't played golf at all the three months previous. Why oh why does this kinda thing make me want to play all of these courses all the more? and why didn't I listen to the college teach who said marry rich????? I'll repeat my standing offer--I can host any of you (MGSers) on the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course at any time at a reduced rate. Less than $200 after July 1 until fall season starts, plus I get to play cheap! And no caddy requirement (saves another $100). While it's Florida in the summer, as long as you stay east of the Intracoastal (which Sawgrass is), the daily Ocean breezes keep it fairly comfortable. Lots of good, cheap places to stay on the Ocean in the summer. Easy 2 hour drive to DisneyWorld if you combine it with a family vacation. St. Augustine is 20 minutes south of Sawgrass. Heading to the TPC right now to get some much needed work on my short game (the practice facilities have been off limits for a while because of the Players).
