I'd say I spend 50-60% but not 70%. The difference is probably putting. I don't practice my putting nearly enough.

So...do you spend 70% of your practice time devoted to the short game? If not how much?

No...because for me, my score is mostly dictated by my tee game. Hard to do well when you start one, or two, strokes down to par the minute you leave the tee. My short game is good enough for me to scramble....but if I get my tee ball down, I won't have to as much.

I might actually spend more than 70% of my time working within 120 yards. I spend the vast majority of my practice time on the practice green chipping and putting. Hitting too many balls bores me to tears, and it costs money, whereas the putting green is free. Even when I'm hitting balls, I hit most of my shots with wedges or short irons.

this is why my scoring has suffered in the past 5 years. I never practice the short game. And I mean NEVER!! I might hit some putts on the green before playing, and perhaps a few chips, but as far as a full blown practice session.... its been years... I hit tons of drivers though..

There is no way I spend 70% of my time on my short game. I would say I spend about 50% though. I have really been practicing with my putter and wedges a lot since they are all new to me this season so getting used to them has been very important to me.

As soon as I pick up a new putter, I plan on living on the putting green. for at least 20 min.

When I was a good player and practiced on my off days I'd hit a few drives, hybrids and 6 irons and 30-40 PWs, some full shots, of course, but mostly knockdowns to a pin 100 yards away. Being able to consistently get the ball close from that distance saved me countless strokes.

I warm up with the sand wedge and cool down with the sand wedge, nor mally working on the 75 50 25 and 10 yard landings. That's mostly because I feel silly doing stretching excercises in public but cannot go into hard hitting cold unless I want to go home in pain.

Sounds a lot like my game...

Although last year I spent about half of my time with my driver/3W/Hybrids, and half my practice putting...

this year my focus will be my short game... one thing at a time...

In spite of what I said, I actually love, love, love to just go to the chipping green with one wedge and about a dozen balls and hang out hitting shots for an hour or more.

I spend a good amount of time working on my short game, I have to, since I don't hit the ball as long as the two guys I usually play with, so I have to rely on iron play and short game to beat them.
