  1. 1. Hybrids or Long Irons??

Recommended Posts

I quit carrying a 2 iron about 10 years ago.. the 3 iron left about 5 years ago, and the 4 iron went 2 years ago. Hybrids are just a ton easier for me to hit.

I still have my MP14 1 iron. I took it out to the range the other day, when the wind was blowing really hard into. I was able to hit my 19* hybrid farther and more constant than the 1 iron. I will only keep the one iron to look at now...

I was one of the early adapters to hybrids.

I used to have a 2 iron that was my go to club off the tee -- for those times you just have to get it in the fairway. The rough at my home course can get narly, and my 2 iron was useless out of it. In 2003 and 2004, the Champions Tour had a tour event at my home course, and after seeing all of those guys using hybrids I decided to give them a try. At that time, lots of those guys were using either the Adams hybrid or the Taylormade one. I hit them both and liked the Adams one better. So, I replaced my 2 iron with a 2 hybrid. Since then, I've added a 3 iron hybrid -- not because I couldn't hit the 3 iron, but because the hybrids are better from the rough (that I find myself in too often).

I started out 2 years ago using a 3 and 4 iron, but now I have a 3 and 4 hybrid, and they are the best clubs in my bag... I feel much more confident hitting them, and I can hit from any conditions...

I actually played 3 holes with only my 4H, and shot bogey on all 3... 2 were legit bogeys, and the other I 3 putted when it should have been 2... did it with a group of friends because they were saying that's the only club I can hit good, so I should only use that... I did...

I've got a 1 iron blade in the basement, it is a Nicklaus Master club, whatever that means. Needless to say, it's very hard to hit.

Lol mine's a Cleveland 588. I bag it over summer, but drop have dropped it going into winter now for old 7 wood. No hybrids for me. Haven't managed to find one I could trust.

I have a revolving WITB policy.

No offense...but you need to look harder. :) There are lots of good ones out there. If they're good enough for the tour guys, they're good enough for any of us.

I'm a long iron guy, although I have gone to a hybrid in place of a 2 iron, mainly because Adams doesn't make one.

I don't want too look though, 7 wood does the same thing a hybrid will.

I would think that a shorter shafted hybrid would be straighter than a longer shafted wood.

Probably just a confidence thing. I will back myself to hit a 7 wood or long iron better than I will a hybrid. Hybrids aren't going to be the anwser for evrybody.

I still prefer to bag woods rather than hybrids. Woods can be reliable and bite well enough. I've never had a hybrid that knew how to stop until it ran out of gas or hit a wall. If the position demands a hybrid like strike, you can choke a wood for that job.

I keep an 18* hybrid and a heaven wood at home along with my 60* wedges for special needs depending on the course to be played or how I feel, but most times the Irons and woods are plenty good enough to get me through.
