Golfing Bucket Lists

Aotearoa_Brad

Recommended Posts

I recently had a birthday, and there are two things that generally happen for me around birthdays:

  1. I take the day off work to play golf
  2. I feel a little less immortal

This year, we were in the midst of a storm on my birthday so there was no “number 1” … leaving much more time for “number 2”

So, I decided if I can't play golf then I'll write a bit of a golfing wish list, or One Golfer's Bucket List (yes, I just wrote in third person :o ).

I'm sure that we all have our own, so this is a place you can put fingers to keyboard, be realistic or dream as much as you want to, and maybe get some inspiration from others. If you've done some of the things here, feel free to let us all know just how awesome it was!

Without further ado, and in no particular order:

  • Get my wife interested in golf (so I can do most of this stuff with her)
  • Break 80
  • Break par
  • Hit a hole in one
  • Play all of the top 30 courses in New Zealand
  • Play all four major courses in a calendar year
  • Play all 104 courses in the state of Hawaii
  • play the Nicklaus North course (Whistler, BC) with the MBPs
  • Have a crack at the Extreme 19th in South Africa
  • Have a 'full bells and whistles' extreme PGA Tour Fitting Experience
  • Get a fully customised wedge set (manufacturer negotiable ... in case any are reading)
  • Acquire Mint mizuno Betti BC1 and BC7 putters ... Love them both
  • Go on a Golfing-specific Vacation
  • Host an MGS members tour in Hawaii

I know I'll add and/or amend this list from time to time.

What's on your list?

What a great thread!

Bucket list....hmmmmmmm....

The first few are easy:

1. Play St. Andrews

2. Play Pebble

3. Score an ace

4. Shoot par or better (thought I was there earlier this week!)

5. Single digit handicap (currently solid 11 from the blues angry.gif)

Some less obvious --

1. Have one of my kids become an avid golfer so they'll play with me when I'm old.

2. Take a golf trip with my best bud

3. Find a hybrid I can hit consistently

4. Be in a position where I'd have to take a restraining order out against Blair O'Neill.

5. Be in a position where I could buy the Ben Hogan brand and bring it back to its rightful place

A hole in one. That's it. It's getting to the point where it's on my mind- definitely won't happen if I'm thinking about it. I've jarred them and had them bounce out/ smoked the stick/ wrapped the flag/ chunks out of the cup/ bladed and hit the pole/ bladed and lipped out/ sucked backed and lipped/ you name it, just can't get one!

At my home course I've eagled 14 of 18 holes. I need a hole in one on each of the four par three's to complete that feat! Definitely doesn't help that I haven't played here since last September, but that should change shortly.

1. Own an unmolested set of Maruman 41cx conductors, 1 iron through to sand wedge - miss those clubs badly.

2. Have the disposable income to fly to the states to play with other spies when a games in the offing.

Rest in peace long sticks - I'll remember you

Bandon Dunes trip

Break low of 68

Attend the Masters- 1 day pass is cool.

Qualify for my club's NCGA net Am.

Retire some day and spend all day everyday at a course like all the regulars at my home track.

In reality I've hit a lot more than I ever thought I would.

Plus index - for only one cycle.

Broke 70 four times - trying for more!

Designed a bunch of putter covers (and even a Titleist cover for that one dude)

Inspired/designed a few putter features (aesthetic stuff)

Attended a bunch of PGA events

Some how obtained some Don White customs

2009 A Flight club champ.

I'm pretty happy with that resume.

I spy with my little eye something...
