They did something similar but different with the FW this year.  With the driver, well, looks like they might have borrowed an idea from someone.

I did find this one, which is similar to descriptions I've heard, which has normal heel/toe weights and a center weight that's where the flipper will go.  Not sure if it's the new driver though, would need someone with more inside info to confirm it: http://images3.freshpatents.com/pdf/US20130023355A1.pdf

I did find a kickass patent they filed for a golf bag that I like the idea of.  Adjustable compartments where you can vary the number, size and shape of the compartments.

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

Ha, I think I may have found it or at least a version of it.  Published March of last year, filed in 2011, and the face is that of the traditional Bertha type face.  It's different, that's for sure.

Hmm... Gravity Core was trademarked in August (filed) so I'm thinking that's the name of the flipper weight thing.

Colt,

Was it this patent that the sliding weight driver was based on?

Yes, gravity core. It's 11g on one end, 1g on the other.

Honestly, I think the bigger tech is the weldless BB head, not the BB Alpha. Weldless, so less wasted weight. The track for the slider weighs 20g. The forgiveness this gives on mishits is pretty substantial. By FAR the most forgiving driver currently on the market, and by FAR the most forgiving driver Callaway has ever built. I cannot imagine that it won't be the #1 driver on the market this year. And i am a well-known Callaway doubter. Not this time. It even looks good at address.

Most importantly, for you guys in the biz, they have promised to not lower the price of either BB model. Ever. They are going to run out of them late in the year. If they run out earlier? It's OK. $399 and $499. Period. No sense in waiting if you want one.

No. Don't waste your time, you won't find it. Tell you more hopefully soon.

What are you waiting on? Lol. 12/2?

I'll give Callaway all the credit in the world for this release. When was the last time golfers cared this much about a Callaway release? Quite frankly I'm dubious of the idea that the buzz building happened organically. It feels totally contrived, and that's fine (pay no attention to the man behind the green curtain). Genuine or not, it has clearly worked.

And really...more to the bigger point at hand; as I sit here at my desk basically 48 hours away from embargo staring at the 2 new Callaway driver offerings, I'm fairly certain the excitement level will be high when these things become official. But will it last? That's the most important question.

Excitement was high last year when RAZR Fit XTREME was announced. Twitter basically exploded because of it, but when all the dust settled, TaylorMade was still reasonably dominant in the driver market (even if they were overly aggressive and ultimately set themselves up poorly for 2014) - and while Callaway saw substantial growth in the metalwoods category, the overwhelming majority of their gains were a direct result of fairway wood sales. They didn't exactly kill it with the driver. They'll do better this year, but I don't believe for a second that Callaway will sell more drivers in 2014 than TaylorMade. For guys like me who concern themselves with who the #1 Company in Golf is...2015 is when I expect things to get very interesting.

Point is, I'm not sure how sustainable the excitement is, especially with the new drivers hitting shelves behind the rest of the 2014 crop. Antsy golfers may buy something else first (and they may be incentivized to do just that). I also suspect that when the rest of the info gets out, there will be bits and pieces that cause a segment of golfers to sour on Bertha fairly quickly.

Your not going to find it ;)

So they haven't done a patent for it yet? Is that to not tip other OEM's off about what they are doing?

I find it strange the gravity core thing only weighs 11g. I'd have thought there would need to be more weight than that to change the COG
