How Forum Testers Will Be Chosen

Message added by STUDque

All,

I'm going to go ahead a lock this thread from further posts, just to keep new folks from getting confused and posting their testing applications here. My sincere thanks goes to those who continue to help our new members.

For those new: read the opening few posts in this thread; they are essential instructions for getting involved in this awesome community! If you are trying to apply for a test, go back to the thread announcing the opportunity and reply to that thread.

Let's be real here people.

- Yes we post these on the blog, but that is to give exposure to the amazing opportunities we're offering to registered member of our forum community. GO SIGN UP NOW!

- You took the time to read the blog, click the link to the forum to get the signup criteria, returned to the blog and signed up in the comments there (not on the forum as stated in instructions). How do you think this lack of attention to detail plays into your chances of getting selected?

- Sure you made a forum account, but you couldn't take the time to do the little things? Update your profile so we can get to know you a little or add an avatar (don't know how? there's a bunch of forum threads on that exact topic)? Make an introduction thread IN THE CORRECT FORUM?

- Signed up for testing in this thread? Once again, attention to detail...

- ONLY have 5 posts and they're all for testing opportunities?

Don't make me go on please...

It's getting really frustrating that we're offering amazing testing opportunities (FREE YOU KEEP)  and people constantly complain and sh*t on us that they never get picked. Is it too much to ask that you actually participate in our community (forums) and build a little trust and respect amongst your fellow members? I'm sorry, but if you don't like free stuff for doing what most consider little to nothing than maybe you're in the wrong place.

I came to this site for a contest; I DID NOT WIN. But I found an amazing group of people I share a common interest with and a handful of them have actually become really good friends outside the forums. Hell I even caught the eye of the owners and was asked to join staff! This place is amazing and it's sure is pretty cool I think that you might just get a little bonus out of it from time to time.

Preach brother, preach. This is a fantastic group of people and a community the club testing is only one small aspect of it!

I have been on this forum for 3 years but really dove in the last 18 months. I was lucky enough to be chosen for one testing and it was a fantastic experience. It is not the reason why I stay on here and participate, its the people!

Been reading some of the social media stuff from today and, while I'm not by nature a ranter (that's MBP's forte!), I feel compelled to add a couple of thoughts:

1. These aren't contests - we're looking for people who we feel will do a good job testing and reviewing these products. We ask an awful lot of our testers - it's a commitment and it requires some work on your part. It's fun work, and you get to keep what you review, but we do expect a good job.

2. Applying is simple - as MBP says, follow the instructions, apply in the appropriate thread and then, most importantly, don't disappear.

3. cnosil's point is very important - we've had people take the product and run, never doing any part of a review (which is kinda like stealing -- no, it IS stealing), or try to sell their product on eBay even before publishing their review. We need to have a feel for a person, and nothing does that like participating in the week or so before we actually choose the testers. Let us get to know you, and that you're interested in being a part of the community.

4. Heard someone lump MGS is with a bunch of other golf forums, saying they're all "cliquey." I'm guessing that person has never actually visited MyGolfSpy -- it's my opinion that we're anything but. We don't allow bullying, we encourage participating and everyone, no matter your handicap or how far you hit it, is welcome here.

Golf is a game, it's supposed to be fun.  This is a golf forum. It's also supposed to be fun.

So if any of the people who are just joining the forum today read this, I hope you take it in the spirit in which it's given. We love being able to provide you with these opportunities -- and we have a TON more before the season is through -- and if you aren't picked your first time out, or your second or your third (I had to apply for 3 YEARS before being selected!!!), if you stick around and participate your time will come.

And just for the record, we pick "new members" all the time. But a profile picture is an absolute minimum!

Welcome, and let's have some fun out there!

Welp...no need to go to Church this Sunday. Already attended for the week!

Let's be real here people.

First and foremost, this is a community, where we all participate through the myriad of discussions mostly golf related and a few non-golf related threads. That is what a community is about - listening to the varied opinions of all those involved to better build our knowledge and expand our realm of understanding about golf and other non-golf related interests. Being chosen is an honor, not a right of just signing up and posting a comment here or there. Even being chosen requires a lot of work from what I understand. While the lure of being a tester does draw in people, those users should realize that this site has much, much more beyond that to offer. Just my two cents worth..

I think I've covered this before, but I suppose it's worth mentioning again...

We get a fair amount of "I've entered X (usually a handful or two) of times and I've never been chosen..." this is usually followed-up with the sort of ridiculous accusations that make me glad the person leaving the comment wasn't chosen.

We've laid out how we do things fairly well I think, but one other thing to consider:

A quick run of the numbers suggests that for an average opportunity (based on the average amount of product available and the average number of people who sign-up), any given individual has roughly a .5% (POINT FIVE PERCENT) chance of being chosen. We're talking about an average rate of 1 person for every 200 people that opt-in for each review opportunity.

Not being selected in your first 5, 10, or even 50 attempts isn't a conspiracy, its not cliquish behavior either. It's math.

What the guys said above.

- It's not a contest

- It's a lot of work (if you do it right)

- And it's fun because it allows you to interact more with members as they follow your reviews and ask you questions

I haven't been here very long, but the value that I have received from my few weeks here has been great. I knew from the reception of my first post this was an exceptional group. The fact that we even get a chance to test equipment is incredible and we should be thankful for that amazing opportunity. With that said thank you MGS for providing an outstanding community for us average joes to communicate, learn, grow, and test new swag!

I just wanted to say.......MAN there are some great testing opportunities going on right now!!  I didn't want to bog down the individual threads by posting this, but between the shotscope, Nexus Range finder, Steelhead irons, and now the Sky Caddie shot tracking system...some very cool stuff.

Way to go MGS in bringing these opportunities to the forum, for like minded readers/players to give us their real world feedback on how the products perform.  I can't wait to hear more feedback, the early reviews on ShotScope have been phenomenal!!

No other site out there, provides this many forum testing opportunities.. NONE!!
