Jace Feely got a reaction from The TXBexar in Should Golf Wedges (like the 60-degree) Be Rusted?
    Pro-Rusting Argument:
        •    Increased Spin: Some players believe that rusting a wedge, like a 60-degree, increases spin on the ball due to the rougher surface, especially in wet conditions. The rust creates additional friction, potentially offering more control around the greens.
        •    Personal Preference: Rusted wedges give some golfers more feel and confidence. They argue that the visual appearance helps them focus on shot execution, and it also gives a more “broken-in” feel, which can be beneficial for comfort and control.
    Anti-Rusting Argument:
        •    No Real Performance Boost: Opponents claim there’s no significant scientific evidence that rust actually improves performance. Modern wedge technology already provides optimal spin and control, so rusting might just be a placebo.
        •    Durability Issues: Rust can degrade the quality of the club over time. Non-rusted, well-maintained wedges can last longer, keeping their grooves intact without the risk of wear and tear that rust can accelerate.
What do you think? Do rusted wedges give an edge, or is it all in the player’s head?

In my experience I always get the best spin with brand new wedges and it decreases over time. I’m rusting one of my older wedges I don’t really care about to see if it changes anything.
