Do you work in the golf world? Or Wish You Did?

I was an assistant pro at a course for 5-6 years. Unfortunately I had absolutely no support from the club or patrons - I was making $8.00 an hour and the head pro took his pick of lessons and let me have the leftovers - that was after I had became the most popular instructor at the course and had 8 hours of booked lessons a day - I went from making a few hundred bucks a day to being allowed to take 1-2 lessons if any where left. I was also expected to fly back and forth to Florida to complete training and testing to join the PGA for Club Pros - Obviously impossible with no support. I had a girlfriend and 2 young children at the time. Now 5-6 years later, I am married to a very successful woman and we are trying to find a way back to golf. I am currently 36 with a wife and 2 kids and we make pretty good money. I started looking and applying for golf jobs, but I just don't understand this industry. I applied and interviewed at one of the nicest clubs around Houston, The Woodlands CC - they have 5 courses and I think you are looking at a minimum of like $50K to get in. The highest they start assistants and pros is $15/hr - They make it extremely hard to earn a living even as a club pro. None of the math here is mathing for me, but I guess for the time being, my dream will stay just that, a dream
