Not trying to be cheeky or provocative, I genuinely don’t understand the question/problem. What is driving this desire by some to go so fast? I never want to go fast on a golf course. I love golfing, play a couple times a week with my wife and friends. Always recreational, never play competitive tournaments. For me, golf is a fun hobby, a thoroughly enjoyable leisure activity, not a stressful endeavor to be concluded as quickly as possible. I enjoy the experience of golf - environment, ascetics, soaking up the sun, the natural exercise benefits, being with friends and family, celebrating great shots, forgetting bad shots, and exploring new courses. I tend to think the vast majority of golfers are like me. I’ve played under 4 hours a few times and it feels plainly hurried, getting-it-over-with being the primary goal of the round. All the enjoyment of golf gives way to the undeniable feeling the course’s revenue targets were the primary objective over the customer experience. And at the prices for a decent daily fee course, not to mention upscale or private, that doesn’t seem reasonable to me. All that said, I do understand others see golf differently than I do, and all the comments highlighting common courtesy are echoed here. If you see the group behind you waiting and open space in front of you, pick up the pace just a bit. It’s possible someone in the group behind needs to catch a plane, or is a new parent trying to get a round in (I remember what that’s like), or…you get the point.

I really hope the majority of people that are in such a hurry are talking about private courses. I get not wanting to stand around after each shot, but there are a finite number of viable hours to play golf, especially when you live somewhere with weather that will close courses for months straight. I played yesterday with my wife and in-laws, both of the women playing are new (less than 5 rounds). Are we not allowed on a municipal course since we need to use different tee boxes and they obviously aren’t good enough to shoot par on every hole yet?
