  1. Awesome, Thanks for the insight. I will be looking out for a 2 iron to try as well as a 5 wood that others keep saying.
  2. Hello, I am a 13.1 current handicap, and have trouble hitting a 3 wood. My current bag is mavrik driver 9 degree, mavrik 3 wood, and tour 2 hybrid, just upgraded from “improvement irons” to Mizuno pro 223 irons. I absolutely love the irons and crush my driver considering the elevation I am playing, but cannot figure out my fairway wood/hybrid. Would a driving iron be better for me as I have a good swing speed to hit it off the deck and can hit the Mizuno 223 irons pretty consistently as a 13.1? I play around 4,200 ft elevation in Reno, NV and originally from Truckee, CA and end up playing a lot of golf even higher elevation. I am a bigger guy with baseball background and can hit the ball further than the average golfer(7 iron 195-200 yd at my elevation). I have a gnarly hook(call it a big draw) with my old irons and hit the Mizunos pretty dead straight/ slight draw. It is great seeing the ball flight in a straighter line finally with much less offset and a more controlled club. But, when I get to a par 5 I know I could get there with a 3 wood but never execute the shot it has me questioning if I could be doing something different to help out with a bogey or double on a par 5 that kills a round. I guess my biggest question is; can I hit a driving iron as far as a 3 wood? And would it be a reasonable thing to put in the bag if my swing speed and conditions of the golf I play are sufficient enough? I have played golf for a long time but recently have been more interested in getting better instead of just smacking a ball around. I was a college athlete and my competitive edge is coming out and would love to put it towards something I am passionate for. thank you give me as much input as possible.
  3. Current gamer - Taylormade TP5x Previous years models Handicap or Ave score - 13.1 Average score 89 7 iron carry distance with current ball - 195 yds (5,000 feet elevation: Tahoe) Trajectory - VERY HIGH Putter - Ping Anser 2, Full steel head, firm The ball: Taylormade TP5x 2024(".5 club longer") Distance - as a 13.1 handicap, this ball did fly further, but for an inconstant golfer this might hurt you with a flyer lie or thinner contact with the ball. Trajectory - This years TP5x actually helped my trajectory a bit. It is lower than last years model(for me) but the height does not effect the stopping power and spin you can get even out of long iron shots. Spin - I have noticed that this ball has one hop stop mentality and I love seeing it just stick like Velcro to the green. It may depend on your shot type, even with a draw/hook for me the stopping power is still there on medium to shorter range shots into the green. Feel - Long iron/Driver shots feel smooth off the club face almost as if you can feel the compression in slow motion, shorter green side shots feel a bit firm but still produce spin and trajectory that you are looking for. Durability (1 round) - I played one full round(mountain golf as a 13.1) and had a few member bounces off pine trees into the fairways, noticed that the ball help up reasonably well for what I put it through. With a flushed iron shot you will not notice any true club "scuff marks" but I have noticed this ball tends to get grass stained very easily so make sure you bring your towel to the green with you when one sticks its landing or has some spin on it. Might have lost one or two on the round, but what 13.1 doesn't lose at least one?? Rating - Total gamer. The ".5 club longer" marketing is true in a sense that the ball can and will travel a bit further on perfect contact, but for a 13.1 handicap that perfect contact can be as many as a few shots a round. This will definitely be something to look out for but overall this ball has been perfect for my game recently. Notes or writeup: To conclude- the TP5x ball is one of my favorites I have played in a long time. The trajectory of the newest model is better than the last TP5x and overall feel is relatively the same. Something to keep in mind is that this ball does fly a bit further and when you have a flyer lie it will come out hot, but this also helps in a sense that on miss hits you might get some of that distance back. Overall, this ball will be my newest gamer and I think it will stick around in my bag for a while. I am new to these reviews and testing of equipment, but hope this helps out a fellow mid-high handicap guy like me. Thanks!
