  1. 5 rounds in the books since wednesday... Striking the ball well, though after the long Minnesota winter I'm finding my putting is sad. Shot what was a mostly solidly struck 87 today at ASU Karsten course, with 37 putts... yeah, that's right. 37. The number of birdies that I turned into bogies was disgusting. As far as I'm concerned, playing the same ball through 18 holes is exciting enough.

  2. I made a small, but apparently crucial swing change in my living room last night in my backswing rotation and it translated to my best round of the year this evening. I took a few holes to adjust to it, but shot 43-38 for an 81 with the last three holes past sunset. What's even more is that I rattled off 7 straight pars to end the night. I've never had that kind of a roll going. I am finally back to smoking the driver pretty well, so I'm finding myself hitting waaay more greens in regulation. Hopefully I can keep this rolling!

  3. Dude, those Dynapowers are Beautiful!!

The one thing that sucks is that they have True Temper Tour Concept shafts, and after hitting a bunch of shots against a set of FG Tour V2s like mine, I would really want to reshaft them with regular Dynamic Golds or KBS Tours.

  4. Shot my lowest round ever today. It was an ugly 37-44 for an 81. The driver was off all day, but I had some really great up-and-downs to save pars. I didn't hit nearly enough greens and with the driver not being quite as good as it has been all month, my 60* and putter really had my back. I left a lot of strokes out there and made mistakes on holes that I really should not have bogied, but I'm feeling very positive about my game right now. I'm close.

  5. What irons are you playing?

I brought both the Mizuno MP-62s and the W/S FG Tour V2s on my trip. Lately I've been playing the FG Tours more. The Wilsons feel better, though the stiffer shafts in the Mizunos made them feel more accurate. Both have been pretty long though. I don't know if it's the heat, but with the 80% humidity I'm wondering how much the net effect really is.

Today was a pretty good day out there too. Shot 84 with three doubles and a triple. The putter was money again today, which feels great! I still need to hit more greens, and most importantly, limit the blow-up holes.

  6. Played yesterday with two other guys I'm working with out here. They played 2 person scramble versus me by myself. I was 2 up going into #7 and blew up 7 and 8 before winning on the 9th with a 44. I played the same 9 later in the day again with one of the guys and shot 41 with two disappointing doubles and a very easy missed birdie putt. Scores are coming down as I'm slowly starting to hit more greens, and my putting made a 180 last week when I switched to a version of the claw grip. Now my putting is dead on (except from 30+ feet, in which case I'm disappointed about half the time). I've also started getting some crazy distance on my irons. I actually hit a few 180yd 7 irons in a crosswind. I think it's time to chop a half inch off the tips of the shafts to reign them in and gain some accuracy... I WILL break 80 soon.

  7. Looking back from the 7th green here in Guam. This is just the course on base. It's tough, but not in the greatest shape.

  8. Well, it was the standard 85*+ and 85% humidity, but I got my first full round in today. 46 front, 43 back. There's some real potential if I can avoid making a few mistakes and blowing up 3 holes. The back went pretty well for most of the holes really, except for one or two. After 18 I decided to play 1 & 2 again because they were the quickest route back to my room and ended up playing them par-birdie, so things are looking up. I've really got to either get my hands on a pull cart or give in and start getting a regular cart if I want to be playing 36 though. My feet are tired after that round.

The short game was flaky, but that's from a lack of practice. The course out here by the building I'm staying in is not in great shape, though they at least make an effort with the greens and surrounding area. They're REALLY slow in the a.m. though, because it rains for a few minutes pretty much every morning. I'd love to try and get to some of the nice courses on the island.

Hopefully you all are getting some good rounds in! And for you fellow Minnesotans... I'm so sorry!

  9. Shot even par 36 today to shoot my best round in an official HS match and to tie my best 9 hole score in my life. Our team shot 1 over par (181) which is our new school record and I got to be part of that which was cool. We took 5 scores: 34 (-2), 34 (-2), 36 (E), 38 (+2), 39 (+3).

    Congratulations on the records!

    Also, congratulations on 500 posts.

  10. Well, I only got one round in this weekend, but it was the first round of the season! It was in Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Club (home of the Hawkeyes). Really great temperatures, but the wind was wild and gusting into the 30s of mph. It made for some interesting holes.

Started out playing some mediocre bogey golf before a 2 hole meltdown before the turn, but recovered for most of the back nine to slightly better than bogey golf. Biggest issue was easily my wedge play. I had some really stellar wedge shots, but a majority of them were embarrassing. I putted well, and tinkered with the swing a bit, but overall felt ok about my contact, and distance. Practice will really help.

Highlight of the day was the signature island green hole. I had just caught up to the group ahead of me on the elevated tee as they were teeing off (and into the water) and they had me play through. Basically this meant that I had to hit into an island green with 30mph + winds from a really elevated tee with an audience! Thankfully I struck it well and had it perfectly on line and cutting with the wind right at the pin but a little over 15ft from the hole... No water for me! Then it was just a normal 2 putt for par followed by a torturous walk back up the same hill I had just walked down to get to the next hole.

  11. Great job Brad!

I played today with my son who's here on leave. I'm well on my way to finding my golf mojo again. Shot 36,37 73. Lipped out for Eagle on 18. It was certainly a windy day but reaching a tight 480 yard par 5 with a 4 hybrid on my approach made my day. In fact the course we played was super tight and it was very, very windy. I didn't miss a fairway on the back 9 and I was hitting it very, very solidly with the driver.

The game is so much more fun when I play like this. When can I play again?

Argh, we're so close to opening courses here in MN finally... I can't wait to post my first round.

Excellent job, and enjoy having your son home on leave!

  12. I really really wish I could have played Wed, but everything fell through... Now I'm relegated to stalking the different golf stores in a kind of rotation so I can hit inside before they realize that I'm not buying anything. On Wed I even went to a Golfsmith and after about half an hour of hitting the sales guys came by and was so bored that he did a full Mizuno fitting for me for free. That was even after I told him that I already have new MP-59s.

  13. Go figure... This was supposed to be only an overnight in Hawaii.

Then the jet broke and now we're here for at least a week and probably more.

Good thing I pulled my clubs out of the car for a second but put them back because I didn't expect to have more than a night in Hawaii. Should have just thrown 'em on the jet just in case. NOW what am I supposed to do?

  14. I was in Albuquerque last week for work and got stuck behind a horrible group. Great course, really, but I couldn't play well to save my life (except with the driver) because my rhythm was shot... Can't even remember how high my score was, but it ended up being a 5 and a half hour round. Then to compound the problem I got pulled over in the rental car and ticketed for 10 over... In wisconsin that's not even enough to get the cop to put down his doughnut. This week I'll be in Hawaii and Guam, so hopefully I can put the clubs to use. At least this time I'll actually have playing partners, I think I've talked a couple of my coworkers into bringing clubs as well.
