  1. I've been playing in the Walter Hagan casual golf shoes for a while now, but they're starting to fall apart. Does anyone have recommendations as to what I should buy next? My feet are a little wide, but I don't NEED wide shoes, just shoes that aren't super narrow. I also really need tour spikes in my next pair because the momentum from my swing makes my front foot rotate WAY too much. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I live about an hour away from a Club Champion. Do you know anything about the quality of their fittings?
  3. Good news! I went to Golf Galaxy today to demo the Mizuno MP-20 MB and the Taylormade P7MB. I posted a few days ago wondering if I was good enough to play a more bladed iron, and I am pleased to announce that the answer is a resounding yes. I LOVE the look of the P7MBs, so I really wanted to like them, but they weren't quite what I hoped for. The distance control and spin were magnificent, but the feel was surprisingly lacking compared to the MP-20s. I'll need a proper fitting to be able to really decide, but it's awesome to know that a club like that isn't completely above my skill level. I don't have the money for a real fitting and clubs right now but hopefully in the next year or two I'll have the extra cash. Also, does anyone have advice for hitting off of artificial turf? It throws me off like crazy and I end up topping like 20% of my shots and I feel like it'll affect my fitting.
  4. I've tried the x versions of the chrome soft and the Pro V1. There was actually surprisingly little difference. It's noticeable, but the difference between the ball and the x version feels smaller than that from ball to ball.
  5. The Player: Current Gamer - Whatever's cheap; normally Top Flite XL Handicap - Not sure but I think around 8 7 iron carry distance with current ball - 190 Trajectory - High Putter - Old Odyssey White Hot #1 Recently I’ve been making a ton of progress in my game and decided that it was worth investing in some nice golf balls. I used various dicks coupons over several weeks and tried the Bridgestone Tour B XS, the Taylormade TP-5, the Callaway Chrome Soft, and the Titleist Pro V1. My ranking of these balls is as follows: 1. Bridgestone Tour B XS Distance - Better Trajectory - High Spin - Hop & Stop Feel - Soft Durability (1 Round) - Scuffed but playable Rating - Gamer Notes - Absolutely the best ball I have ever played. Interestingly enough, when I got the ball I thought it felt quite cheap. The harder thin-feeling cover made the ball feel like a Nitro. However, on the course, it has to be one of the softest balls I’ve ever played. Its distance and spin (judging just from how the ball stopped) was also unmatched among the other competitors. *Disclaimer: if your swing speed is below 105 mph, you cannot get the most out of these balls. I would instead recommend the Bridgestone Tour B RXS. 2. Titleist Pro V1 Distance - Better Trajectory - High Spin - Hop & Stop Feel - Soft Durability (1 Round) - Scuffed but playable Rating - Casual Notes - I know that everyone has played this ball so I won’t go into too much detail. The Pro V1 was very similar to the Bridgestone, but I did notice fractionally lower spin. The feel off irons was quite similar, but the feel off the driver face was not nearly as good. 3. Taylormade TP-5 Distance - Better Trajectory - High Spin - Hop & Stop Feel - Soft Durability (1 Round) - Like New Rating - Casual Notes - I honestly struggled choosing whether to put this ahead of the Pro V1 or not. This ball felt like it had by far the best control around the green (it didn’t, but it felt sooo soft on shot chip shots). Honestly, short game feel is more important than long game feel, but the TP-5 just couldn’t match the performance of the Bridgestone and the Pro V1. I did really like the PiX technology; finding and recognizing the ball became much more effortless. Durability was exceptional for these balls, so they are probably the best for the money out of the four. 4. Callaway Chrome Soft Distance - Same Trajectory - High Spin - Release some Feel - Mushy Durability (1 Round) - scuffed but playable Rating - Casual Notes - as the name implies, these are some quite soft balls, especially off longer shots. However, this ball dropped out of the competition for best golf ball pretty quickly just due to lacking performance. Feel was great but spin and distance were both low. *Disclaimer: I used the last model year of the Chrome Soft because they were on sale. Final Take - If I've learned anything from this test, it's that tour level golf balls are all quite similar in performance. I loved the Bridgestone Tour B XS, but I can certainly see why so many others prefer Pro V1s and TP-5s. I do like the Chrome Softs so I did rate them too poorly, but I would only recommend buying them on sale or if you have an Odyssey Triple Track putter, in which case the putting aid may be worth the slightly sub-par performance.
  6. I'm really wanting to get fitted for some Taylormade P7MBs. I keep averaging about 3 over on 9; is that good enough to make the switch to blades?
  7. What's in my bag: I'm loving the Mizuno 2-iron and the Cobra fairway wood, but the rest of the clubs are just random ones from Dick's sales. I would love to get fitted for some Taylormade P7MBs but I don't have the money for anything like that right now. I would also love to ditch the hybrids; I hit them fine but just I don't like the feel of them. The shafts in my irons and hybrids are Regular+ flex graphite, so there's way too much torque/twisting for my swing (~115 driver clubhead speed). I'm having fun getting better and I'll hopefully be getting fitted sometime in the next few years.
