  1. Hey all, I'm sure this has been posted a million times, so I apologize. I am going to Vegas this April for the national bowling tournament, but looking to hit the golf course about a half dozen times before we bowl. What courses have you all enjoyed? We are looking to play a few times at some courses at the "average" price for out there, and one round at a fancier place. Also looking to do some night golf...are there any places besides Angel Park and the LV Golf Center on the Strip? Where have you all played and fell in love with? Any courses stand out to you as a great place for the money? TIA!
  2. The local golf shop was having a fitting event so, being curious about new wedges, I was eager to check it out. Callaway, Mizuno, Tour Edge, TaylorMade, Cleveland/Srixon, and Wilson were the brands that were represented. I was interested in Jaws, MG3, and RTX6. At Callaway, the rep was a little brash (which isn't a bad thing, just didn't mesh with my personality well). He took a look at my current wedge set (Mizuno T22 48, 52, 56, 60) and watched me hit my PW a few times, then handed me a 54 degree with a Z grind. I hit that a bunch, then he had me hit his personal 60 degree and practice hitting flop shots. He didn't seem to care about me running over the alotted time, which I brought up that I had appointments at other tents that I was late for. The performance was OK, but I had a hard time getting the club through the ground due to my skill level. I wish he had offered to have me hit a few different grind/bounce options after watching me struggle. It felt more like a demo than a fitting. He recommended the AW from my iron set (Apex DCB), a 54 degree (8 bounce, C grind) bent to 53 and a 58 degree (8 Bounce, Z grind) bent to 57...all three 1/2" long and 1 degree flat. After running over my time I was late to Cleveland to try the RTX6. This appointment felt rushed, so I can't really fault the gentleman since I was the one who came late. This rep at least looked at my attack angle with a few different clubs and recommend different grinds for each club. I enjoyed this aspect of it, but wish I would've had more time to be a little bit more thorough. I liked these clubs more than the Jaws, but I didn't have the warm and fuzzies. Recommendation was 50 degree/mid/10, 54 degree/full/12, and 58 degree/mid/10. Over to TaylorMade, I was excited to try the Milled Grind 3 after they won MGS's Most Wanted Wedge two years in a row. From the get-go, I clicked with this rep. Before we dove into which wedges and their setups, he watched me hit a few shots with my PW and asked what I was looking to accomplish. TM does not offer a 48 degree wedge, so I hit both a 46 and 50 degree option. Right away, I could feel the club slide through the turf much better than any wedge i'd ever hit before. We looked at strike location and launch direction, as well as assuring proper gapping from my PW. The next club we looked at was a sand wedge option, then on to the lob wedge option. I was able to hit a few degree and bounce options for each. I ended up landing on a 46 degree satndard bounce (9) bent to 48, a 52 degree high bounce (12) bent to 53, and a 58 degree high bounce (12)...all 1 degree upright. Being a numbers and data dork, the experience at the TaylorMade tent was everything I was looking for. Maybe I subconsciously wanted the MG3 to be the best and I was excited to try them, but the time they took to look at the specifics of my club delivery to ensure good contact and club/turf interaction was awesome. I had been fit for every other club in my bag, but the indoor fitting setting isn't ideal for wedges. I'm glad I took the opportunity to go to the fitting event and I'd recommend a thorough wedge fitting to anyone. I'm excited to get my MG3s!
  3. I think cost certainly has to be considered, along with skill level and what you are looking for out of a ball. I love the performance of my Z-Stars, they are right up there in every aspect of the game with any Pro V1 that I find in the woods. For me and my propensity to lose 2 balls a round, I am happy to save a couple bucks buying Z-Stars as opposed to Pro V1s. Other tidbits...I love how fast the Pro V1x feels off the driver, but it just flies a little too high for what I like to see. Z-Star XV feel similarly as fast off the driver, but that have a little bit too much of a clicky feel to them around the green.
  4. Hey all, I will be heading to Reno this July for the national bowling tournament and I added a few days to my trip to play a few rounds. Does anyone have course recommendations? I'd go as far out as Tahoe, and will splurge for a really nice round once, but would prefer to stay under $100 for the other rounds. What do you think?
  5. Hey all! New member to the forum here… I love equipment and looking up all the details on anything new that comes out. I also love hearing what equipment other people use and why they use it. With that said, I thought I would share what’s currently in my bag when I hit the course: Driver: TM Stealth 2 - 10.5°, Hzrdus Black 6.0 shaft….I wanted something new this year. I had a Ping G410 plus for a few years, and it did fine. I was torn between this and the TSR2 as they both performed very similarly for me, but it came down to the Stealth 2 being a few months newer. 4/5 so far…enjoying the distance but some days the 10.5° has a lot of height 3W: Ping G410 SFT, Evenflow Black 85g XStiff…when I got back into golf a few years ago I happened to get fit for a full set of G410 (and not on purpose either). This club used to be a struggle but now that I am spending some extra time at the range it’s becoming very useful for me. 4/5….would’ve been 2/5 a year ago 7W: Ping G410 SFT, Evenflow Black 75g XStiff….I picked up a 7W because my old Frankenstein set that I had included a 7W that I remember always hitting well, so I wanted a 7W in the bag when I upgraded. When I got back into golf, this club was a savior but now that I am improving and practicing, this one starts out further left than it used to. I will likely be messing with the flatter setting to try and compensate…3/5…would’ve been 4.5/5 a year ago but I gotta mess with it to get her back to that point Irons: Callaway Apex DCB 5i-Pw, standard L/L/L, Elevate 115 steel XStiff…I was excited to feel the explosive crack of a G410 iron when I first came back, but after hearing the rumors of how satisfying a softer feeling iron is (as well has struggling to hold greens) I went for something new. These seemed to have the right blend of forgiveness and soft feel and matching them with the Elevate shafts gave me enough descent angle to hold greens….5/5, I’m really enjoying these since I picked them up in October. Wedges: Mizuno T22 48.08, 52.09, 56.10, 60.10…I used to have CBX wedges that I was a fan of, but when I got my DCBs with a 43° Pw, I got it in my head that the 7° between that and my Gw was too much. I love the 48°, but I struggle with when to use each of the rest of them. I started with the 48, 60, and a 54.08 that I could not get along with, so I swapped that out for the 52+56…I will likely get something new, whether it be a 54.12 to replace the 52+56 or a new set of 3 wedges. I’m very interested in the MG3 as they were the most wanted two years in a row. That’s gotta mean something, right? These are the only clubs in my bag that I wasn’t fitted for, so I would definitely want to do that for the next set. 3/5 Putter: Sik DW-C, 34”…i never knew the value of a putter fitting. I picked one up at the golf shop, hit a few balls, it felt and looked nice, so I bought a Cleveland HB Soft Premier. After using that for a year and not being a very good putter, I noticed I had a wear spot towards the toe. My next thought was to get a mallet putter since it would be more forgiving on off-center hits and I picked up a Ping 2021 Harwood. After a season of little improvement, I bit the bullet and got fitted. I use an alignment line on my balls, and with the other putters I never saw the line tumble over itself. After being fit with a putter that is the right length, lie, and shape that my eye likes, my putting has improved a whole lot and now I see the alignment line rolling over itself like it's supposed to…5/5, I can’t say enough about this one. Ball: I typically play Srixon Z-Star. I got turned on to them because of their Father’s Day promotion the last few years. I tinker around with Pro V1s that I find, and I don’t see a reason to go with those over the Z-Star, especially when price is considered. They do enough of everything for me…5/5 Do you play anything that I game right now? What are your thoughts? Thanks for reading!
