  1. If that’s true, then why to game improvement irons exist? Super game improvement? Etc? Every site you read, they are clearly delineated by handicap. Of course a fitting is crucial, but that’s till doesn’t answer my question. If I hit a game improvement iron well but my 7i is a 215 club, that’s less helpful to me than hitting a Players iron pretty good and bringing my 7i distance down to a more reasonable 190.
  2. Hey Everyone, I’m in the market for a new set of irons. I currently play the PXG Gen4 0311P (strong lofts) and I’ve had them for three years. As my swing has evolved over the last three years, my seven iron has turned into a 210 yard club which I think is too far because I run out of clubs to hit at shorter distances. Based on my handicap (16), I should be playing game improvement irons but the problem is that game improvement irons have super strong lofts! If I want to get into a more traditional loft, I have to go with a players iron. I was excited to read that MyGolfSpy rated the Mizuno JPX923 Tour highest in accuracy and forgiveness which is exactly what I need but then you go on the Mizuno website and they say those are for expert players which I’m most definitely not! So what should I do? Any club recommendations with traditional lofts that skew more towards game improvement?
  3. Hey everyone, I have a sim setup and have used the CCE mat for about 18 months. I bought the mat because of their advertised realistic turf response to fat shots. Since my miss is fat, I thought it would be good to 'feel' the fat shots while I was practicing at home. In theory it sounded great but in reality it resulted in some tendonitis, finger joint pain and several bent clubs. Hitting repeatedly off of firm surfaces is known to tweak your lie angles but for me, it actually bent my clubs toe down right at the distal end of the shaft. I just replaced the shafts this week and will likely be buying some different turf and cutting out a rectangle where I hit from and replacing that part of the CCE mat with a better hitting surface. The one that came most recommended to me was the EZ Tee Hybrid surface. Hope this helps!
  4. 1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I’ve played golf for about 5 years. I’m currently a 16 handicap. 2. What do you love about golf? I love the technical side of golf. I love the physics, studying the technique and trying to apply those to my own game. I love dada and metrics to the point where it starts to impede my game. I enjoy how golf is a sport that can be done here at my home course but also adds such a highlight to any vacation by exploring new courses around the world. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I came across MGS about a year ago on instagram and really appreciate their dedication to providing honest and unbiased content. I don’t think I know any other MGS people here, but it’s a small world so perhaps there are some familiar faces and I just don’t know it yet! 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? I’m from Oregon originally but have lived in Reno, Nevada for nearly a decade. My home course is Somersett Golf and Country Club. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The best part about golf here is 300 days of sunshine. No rainy or wet rounds of golf! The worst part is that we do get a fair amount of snow and the course is closed several months each year. 6. What do you do for a living? I am a proud husband, father and an anesthesiologist! 7. How’d you pick your user name? It’s just my first and last name shortened :).
