  1. For more details, be sure to check out this review from another of our MGS forum members:
  2. Brand: Flightscope Model: Mevo Retail Price: $499 Pros: price point, size/portability, data Cons: occasional missed reads, connectivity issues, support I got the basic Mevo a last year as a gift, and the more I use it the more I love having it despite the limitations. I have used this at standard driving ranges, domes, and with my backyard hitting net. If you're looking for a basic launch monitor this is a great choice. Paired with the free FS Golf app, the sensor will track Carry, Club Speed, Ball Speed, Spin, Smash, Launch V, Height, and Flight Time for every shot. The Mevo does not have its own camera but can take video in the app using the camera on your phone. It works indoors and outdoors, and also has a "chipping" mode. There are occasional issues where shots are not tracked, or the radar will pick up a shot from someone nearby. The most common reason a shot does not read is when the device loses connection with my phone. That has been happening less often with recent firmware updates, but was an issue early on. The only other negative is the support. Flightscope switched from the "FS Mevo Golf" app to the new "FS Golf" app, but provided no instructions on how to do anything within the app. Some things are inuitive, or can at least be discovered by futzing around looking for other settings. It was only today, having used the app for almost a year, that I figured out how to record video within the app. I searched the Flightscope website multiple times and there were no instructions anywhere. Other than these small issues, the device works very well. I compared it with a friend's swing radar, and they were consistently within +/-2mph of each other on club speed. The app includes four "modes:" Full Swing, Swing Training, Challenges, and Review. Full Swing is the basic data mode. Swing training allows you to work specifically on club head speed without a ball. Challenges include Long Drive, Range Competition (more focused on accuracy), and PGA Challenge (how close can you get to the Pros data parameters?). Review is obviously the place to look at past sessions. You can also review session data on the MyFlightscope website, which comes with a free basic membership as well as monthly subscription options. The main difference in the options is how many videos you want to save to the cloud. Basic membership allows you to upload and save up to 10 videos. Overall, this is well worth the investment if you want a good launch monitor without spending over $1000. FSVideo.mov
  3. I'm getting a similar issue when I try to post in "Member Reviews." I tried logging out and back in but that did not fix the problem.
  4. Played this course for the first time yesterday, and 10/10 would recommend. Pros: Beautiful scenery, multiple tee boxes, trash cans & ball wash on every hole, driving range and large practice green, COST!!!! Cons: bunkers take too long to dry after rain, small pro shop Right off the bat, the cost struck me. For a non-member, 18-holes with a cart and a medium bucket of range balls on holiday weekend was only $60. I've paid more than that just for my round of golf at courses that were in far worse shape than this. All the tee boxes were flat, plenty of grass to hit from, and every hole had a trash can and ball wash located either next to the white tees or between white/blue (the most trafficked areas, rather than by the tips where no one ever stops.) The course winds its way through a neighborhood with plenty of glimpses at the Chocowinity Bay/Pamlico river. Especially on 15, where you hit downhill to a green right on the water. Because of the neighborhood, many of the holes are very narrow. Most are lined with trees to help protect the houses. Fully paved cart path throughout the course, with a few bridges and tunnels to help navigate nearby roads and waterways. Some parts of the path do cross over roadways, so pay attention to stop signs. The driving range was across the parking lot from the clubhouse. Decent space. It was "mats only" when I was there, which was understandable after the rain we had this week. It borders the 9th hole on the left, but when I was playing that hole I only found one range ball that snuck through the pine trees and bushes into the rough on our hole. The spacious practice green is behind the clubhouse right against the water. Chipping is allowed, by try at your own risk. There are only about 5-10 yards of runoff available before your ball is in the water. As for the course itself, the scenery is beautiful and each hole presented a slightly different challenge with the combination of hazards. Really the only downsides were the small pro shop and the quality of the bunkers. I'm sure they're well kept in normal conditions, but three days after it rained there was still standing water in several of them and the ones that didn't have water were still very damp. Overall I would absolutely go back to this course. It's hard to beat the quality for the price.
  5. Started when I was only about 8 years old, but stopped after HS because I didn't have anyone to play with anymore after we all left for college. Came back into it during COVID. I'm normally shooting mid-high 90s. I love that golf can be so many different things all at once. A nice day in nature, an excuse to enjoy a cigar, a super-competitive round against your buddies, a personal challenge. Joined MyGolfSpy after following them on Twitter and reading product reviews. Hoping to be a tester for some of their products. Just moved to NC a couple weeks ago, so no home course yet. I'm only guessing at the moment, but I'd say the best thing about this region is courses are open year-round. The worst? TBD...
