Playing Hilliard lakes golf club in Westlake Ohio today. I have a buddy who puts together a multiple foursome scramble about 8 groups of guys. Fun times, played in it last year. Going into today with where my game is at, and scramble format, I’ll likely attempt to hit driver which has been a bit wild for me like usual. I don’t want that to take me out of the rest of my game where I can contribute better so I’ll look to hit 3-7 wood or long irons off the tee where I have much better control. Might be lead off guy to just put one out there and put it in play. I’m fine with that. Hope everyone playing today shoots low

Played a round at a local track in Hinckley Ohio named VALLEAIRE Golf Club. I’m still figuring my way around after finding golf again post a 15 year hiatus. I hit it well sometimes and other times leaves me scratching my head. I have developed a sense of when I do something wrong, why that result happened so I can try to correct it the next shot. Improvements have been made. Enough about that on a par 3 167 yard hole, dew soaking up the greens and fairway, I hit a comfortable 7 iron into this green that was dead straight the entire way. As it approached earth I knew it was on line, just couldn’t judge the distance due to a backdrop of bright sun coming up over the trees. It hit green short of the cup a few yard and landed softly about 2.5 feet from the hole. Approaching the green knowing I hit my best shot of the day to that point I couldn’t help but notice the crater pitch mark I left which I was fairly impressed with. Dryer conditions, I may have been left with a better result. In case you’re wondering, I then missed the birdie putt by a touch and ended with a par. Either way, it’s shots like that that keep me coming back for more.

I’m still learning the wedge nuances, but despite that, the hand me down 58 and 60 that I use, I use fairly well. That’s the best part of my game all around. I just have realized as I’ve played more consistently this year and last, that I lack that mid distance club between the AW and 58-60. In other words, I have distances that require a more full swing from those 2 high lofted clubs. I guess I need to middle them with a 53-54 and that would allow me to back off the full swings on those clubs. Thanks for your input

How would you lay out the wedges in your bag if your included AW was 48 degrees of loft? Would a collection of a 53-54 and a 58 be sufficient gapping? I currently own a very used 58 and 60 degree that I play with out of it is what I currently have. Both could afford to be replaced but I just don’t know how to round out my bag given what I currently own. Any insight would be great.
