  1. Course I went to in the morning was closed, but I was allowed to practice chipping and putting and was really pleased with the results from re-shafting my SCORs with the Genius shafts.

Course I went to in the afternoon was open, but I only had about an hour left, so I took advantage of the range to make a head to head comparison with the Paderson shaft and my gamer shaft.

I was really pleased with my consistency for this early in the year.

I think the weather and courses will be playable when I get my irons back with their new graphite shafts!!

What shafts did you have in the SCORs prior to the Genius shafts?

  2. Don't feel bad, there's a lot of that going around - lol

Hitting on a mat over the winter helps to stay in "golf shape," but leads to some bad habits, as well.  I'm just glad we're starting to get some days where I can start adjusting to hitting on real turf!  It will be another couple of weeks before the courses are actually playable.

Yes but you guys have an excuse because of the snow, I live in Southern California.

  3. Today was the first time I've hit a ball in about 3 months and I don't think I've chunked so many shots in one range session other than when I started playing this game for the first time. I know this isn't technically a round of golf but I felt it was worth sharing, I can only imagine what my score would be if I did go and play today.

  4. Definitely a watch person. I only own two watches currently, both are quartz, but I would like to own a very nice mechanical watch one day. There are a too many that I like, Ball, Hamilton, IWC, Omega, Sinn and much more. I realize I could use a cell phone to look up time but there are many more reasons as to why I like watches, they are mechanical art. There are some nice quartz watches as well such as Swiss Army.

  5. The question is - a "forged" iron made from 8620 carbon steel - is it really forged?  From what I've read, 8620 can be forged at temps between 1800 and 2200 degrees, but are they typically cast and then stamp-forged?

Another question - does it matter?  Can you feel the difference?

If an iron has undergone a forging process and is made from 8620 carbon steel then it is really forged in my opinion. If the iron came from a casting and was then forged, I consider it forged, technically speaking. Yes it wasn't forged from a billet like a lot of irons are but it still went through the process.

It's like my Wilson 8882 that I have. By a golfer's definition, it's not a milled putter however, it did get milling on the face so it technically was "milled" in that aspect even though the putter came from a casting process (I believe) and not from a solid block of metal like a 100% milled putter. I just started learning about manufacturing processes in engineering school so I'm taking the terms "forged" and "cast" here in a literal sense.

As for feel, I'm not sure I can tell a difference when it comes to the material. For wedges, I can feel a difference in a Vokey vs SCOR but that may have something to do with the shaft. If you gave me two identical wedges that were both created the same and had the same specs except one is from 8260 and the other one from is 1020, I'm not sure I would be able to tell a difference.

  6. It's been 6 months since I've played a full 18 hole round. I've still hit on the range and been on executive courses a few times but not much other than that. I shot 81 (+10) and was almost able to break 80. I was 8 over teeing off on 16 and eventually had a three putt that should not have happened, the approach shot landed 15-20 feet away and it was a straight slight downhill putt but I hit it a tad hard and pulled the 3 footer coming back. I then saved a bogey on 17 and parred 18. I was putting pretty decent and hitting my tee shots great but my approach shots were killing me. I had to grind to save par on quite a few holes, good thing my short game was on, for the most part.

  7. Lately I have lost interest in playing golf. I've only played a couple times this summer even though I've had plenty of time. During those couple rounds, I was able to play well, wasn't frustrated, and enjoyed myself so I'm not quite sure of the reason for this lack of interest. I still like to watch golf and look at certain types of equipment but I can't get excited enough to get out there and play whether it's a full 18, the local executive course or even the range. I'm hoping that I will find that spark and take up golf seriously again. This may take a little time since I'm starting college and want to really focus on that and on some other extra-curricular activities. I've read about golfers quitting or losing interest mainly because of high scores, not having fun, financial reasons, etc. Anyone else here go through a slump like this?

Also, I haven't been too active on the forums because of this. I haven't been golfing much or trying new equipment so I didn't feel as if I had anything to contribute. So if you don't see much coming from me then this explains it. I'll still be part of MyGolfSpy and hope to contribute more posts once I'm playing more.

  8. Thanks, I don't think DC even allows caddies.

Best of luck on the season. My most frustrating times on the golf course were spent caddying for my son in his high school matches. I don't know about DC but Wisconsin did not allow caddies to give advice or coach. It was agonizing.

We were never allowed caddies either. I didn't think that was a thing that high school golfers did.

  9. I played at the Morongo Golf Club, both the Legends Course and Champions Course. The Legends course I shot 81 (+9) which could've been better, my putting on the back nine sucked. At the Champions Course I shot my personal best, 75 (+3). Everything seemed to be on but putting wasn't helping, I'll need to work on it a bit.

  10. I played at the local executive course today to keep my game up (at least the short game) and I had my personal best. I finished at 2 over which could've been better but I'll take it. I also used an old Arnold Palmer heel shafted blade and only had one three putt which was nice. Other than that my swing has been pretty good lately from what I've seen on the range and on a couple of the longer holes there.

  11. I had a tryout for this high school tournament we will go to and shot 41 for the second time in a row. This puts me as our fourth man at 82 (+10) out of eight team members. I had too many birdies lip out and I had one bad hole with a bad drive which is rare for me. I've been very consistent as far as scores go but I'm definitely making silly mistakes and I feel as if it's only a matter of time before those 9 hole rounds in the 30's start coming in consistently.
