Awesome Kristian!  I play Las Positas about once a month, whether that's the 18 or short 9 hole.  Las positas is a fine track, nothing fancy about it, it gets a ton of play so definitely need to book a round in advance.  It can be challenging from the tips, especially on the par 3s.

I still need to play Wente but its a bit pricy for my taste.  Poppy ridge is a great course, you get the best of everything in my opinion.  Great practice facility.  Challenging holes and greens but you can shoot low.  I played there about 6 weeks ago and shot a 78.  I usually look on golf now for deals but if you're an NCGA member you can also get discounts there.

    Thanks for the info!

Awesome! I am a Bulldog Alumni ('09-'14).  Some of my favorite spots for a burger in Fresno were Doghouse and the mad duck (Herndon location).  If you go past Turlock, dustbowl brewery is always a good spot for a burger and beer.  I live in Dublin now, I have almost 10 courses within a 30 minute drive, I love it!

Nice! I grew up in the Bay Area (East Bay) and learned how to play on the courses up there.  I pass by Dublin whenever I go up north to visit family (well, when I could visit them, haha).  I've had Poppy Ridge and Wente on my playlist for awhile.  Whenever I drive up there I tell myself I need to just make a trip to play there so I can cross them off my list.  haha.

Have you played Las Positas?  I see that right off the 580 and have been wanting to play there too for a while

Well, I just took the plunge. I know they are $200, but they are built like a brick s&^thouse. It is very important to get the right size. They run large. My athletic shoes are either 9 1/2 or 10. My dress shoes are 9 to 9 1/2. I tried a 9 1/2 and they were too big. I returned them for a 9 and took them out on the course for the first time on Friday. I am a dew sweeper and a walker. They were incredibly comfortable and supportive. The grip was amazing. I didn't use the square toe as an alignment aid so I can't comment. I tied for my best round of the year, an 84, and that is with a triple on 17. I am a believer. And oh may the way my feet were bone dry. I know they are expensive at $200 and I am lucky to be able to afford them. If you are a social media user, you can be an ambassador and get back $10 on your shoes and $20 for every pair sold that uses your ambassador code. I think they are worth the money, but that is me. If you are considering it I say go for it but be careful of the size.

Thanks for the insight! I've been debating these shoes for a while now and I am an early morning walker, so shoes that will keep my feet dry are key!

Everyone gets a cart. I’ve played with a 2,3 & 4 in my group. Fastest rounds of golf I’ve been able to play in years. With no raking, the bunkers have also become a real penalty if you go in the sand. When we let someone play through it takes little to no time before we tee off. This is a part of golf  I hope stays. I’m playing mostly public courses.

I'm fortunate that a couple courses near me have stayed open during this time.  To be honest, I've played more golf during this time than any other time because all of my kid's weekend activities have been cancelled and my saturday mornings are now free.

I don't ride in any carts anymore and walk every time I play and I LOVE IT! With raised cups, not having to move the pin, rake the bunkers, and smaller groups the rounds go faster and people playing tend to go faster..

The CA order let the counties determine if golf courses would stay open or close from the beginning. My club has reopened 3 times due to changes from county health board, while other counties deemed golf essential, others closed them completely. It is so segregated here that Fresno County courses are open but not Fresno City courses.

I wonder with what the Fresno Mayor just said earlier today (that shelter-in-place will last through May but will open businesses in phases) that means golf will start opening up within the City limits.  If done correctly and safely golf is a pretty safe activity to participate in.

  6. Hello All...whenever my buddies and I play we always go for a post-round burger/food.  A couple courses are currently open near me, but are currently not serving food.  Wondering if there are any Central California golfers out there that can share some courses that have great post-round burger/food.  Doing research for when this shelter-in-place is over and courses open back up to normal!

    Thanks in advance!

Nice! Yeah...i've actually been playing more golf now during this pandemic than I have ever before.  With my kid's activities all cancelled now, I'm free again on the weekends.  I play Sherwood Forest every saturday morning and then Dragonfly on Wednesday afternoons (I run a small Engineering Golf League).
