I just bought these as well. Any idea if they'd be from around the same time (late 70's/early 80's)? I'm thinking they're late '80's, based on the hosel and groove design, like my Wilson K-28s.

Now the big question: Do I play them or seal them in a vault somewhere? I paid about $150 US for them (incl. shipping), but if they're worth a lot I'd consider putting them away. I'd really like to play them :-).

Oh, this is awesome. Where did you find that catalog? They're a lot older than I thought. They do have Nicklaus and Weiscopf on the box it came in, but I still thought they must be newer, based on the shape they are in. Thanks again!

Would anyone happen to know anything about these woods? I picked them up on eBay and I don't think they've ever been used. They came in their original box, with the grips still wrapped. They're maple Uniblock, not solid persimmon. I'm thinking late '80's or early '90's, but I couldn't find anything on the box to say either way.

What you say about an iron short, one of the reasons I like playing older clubs (besides the fact I can afford them ) is that I can judge distance a lot better. I know how far my old 5 iron or PW goes, but with the newer cavity back irons I've played, I'm all over the place distance-wise. Especially the shorter clubs. A new PW is like an old 8 iron.

JPW062, I have an old copy of the Maltby guide. I remember it saying to heat up a long drill bit (or any iron rod that'll fit inside the shaft) with a propane torch and place it inside the shaft as far as it will go. This, of course, requires you to chop the old shaft down close to the head, so if you're looking to keep the old shaft you'll have to try something else. It also allows you to work the head off the old shaft without burning anything. Hope this helps.

I've never seen muscle backs with that design before, with the weight placed in the middle the way these are. How do you find hitting them? How do they feel, in other words?

Hi. I just bought a set of MacGregor woods on eBay. They were purchased from a golf course that was going out of business. As far as I can tell, they've never seen grass. Arrived still in the box. Based on that, I'd say they're early '90's vintage, but possibly older. They're Uniblock, not solid persimmon. Model is 1S300. Any info non these would be appreciated. Trying to decide whether to seal them in a vault or start playing them.
