  1. As a few others have mentioned above, Tommy Fleetwood is my favorite. His swing is like a much (much) tidier version of mine and he seems like a really cool guy from the videos I have seen him on doing challenges for DP world tour and Taylormade
  2. Keith Mitchell's swing is real nice, and +1 for Joel. The Full swing episode confirmed what I had already seen of him
  3. You make a good point about the performance gains! I hit driver after hitting all of the shots with PW and 7 Iron so I didn't feel any warmer between the two balls when hitting driver. I just looked as I made notes and Driver Swing speed was 102.3 with the Kirkland and 102.7 with the Titleist on average. So a little faster but pretty close. As you mentioned, I think improved strike could help to explain but unfortunately the trackman I was using was not picking up impact location due to the lighting at the location I tested at. Have you had any success with used balls? I have heard very mixed reviews. Thanks for the reply
  4. I primarily play the Kirkland V2 ball. I like the way it feels off of wedges and irons and have not noticed a significant impact on performance, at least at my skill level. As a constant tinkerer and someone interested in data and performance, I wanted to see what -- if any -- benefit I see from using a premium golf ball and if this benefit is tangible enough to pay the extra money for a premium ball considering I lose 2-3 balls per round. I compared Kirkland V2 golf balls with Titleist Pro V1x to see if it is worth the upgrade. Background I am a 15 handicap, Driver SS 103 mph with a fairly consistent approach game. With this in mind I could theoretically fit into a number of different golf balls. Low launch is generally something I see out on the course, and is a characteristic others have noted with the Kirkland ball, so I wanted to try the ProV1x for its higher launch and to see if I could pick up on any other differences. I used Trackman to take 10 shots each with PW, 7 Iron and Driver and then selected the 5 best shots from each and noted the averages from Trackman. I also took the balls outside to a practice green to chip and putt and made notes on my observations. PW and 7 Iron Not much to note here, Spin for both was within 200 RPM of the other and Launch was less than 1* different, thought the prov1x did launch higher. Driver Height for both was around 90 ft, but this is where I noticed some significant differences. Prov1x carried 253 Yards while Kirkland carried an average of 237. Spin was much more consistent with the Prov1x with a delta of roughly 400 rpm -- the Kirkland delta was 860 RPM (some of this may come down to strike location). Most notably, the prov1x was straighter which probably helps to account for the added carry distance. I much preferred the prov1x with driver. Wedge/Putter I was surprised to find that I preferred the Kirkland from 50 yards and in. This could come down to me having used that ball for a while and having limited experience with the prov1x, but I found the Kirkland to check faster and more predictably. Overall I was more consistent with the Kirkland but again, this could come down to confidence and familiarity. I noticed absolutely no difference with Putter. Thoughts So what did I learn? For myself, I am just not consistent enough to feel the need to pay for premium balls. I now know I am in fact losing some performance off the tee, but not enough to make the change. If I start to play tournaments, I will definitely reconsider but for now I will stick to the Kirkland. That's not to say others in my position shouldn't go for the market-leading balls, because there are clear performance benefits and if that is important to you, you certainly won't regret it. I hope this is helpful -- if anyone has experience with these two balls, feel free to jump in or suggest other mid-priced balls that may also have a benefit over the Kirkland ball at a reduced cost.
  5. So I am a fairly new player (>2 yrs) and most aspects of my game are improving fast but my putting just isn't. I know I need to manage my expectations, but I have looked at youtube videos and I feel like it has sent me in too many different directions. I was fit for the putter I am using and based on my discussion with the fitter I don't have a lot of mechanical issues with my putter stroke. On a straight putt I have no issues. It is out on the course actually playing that I run into problems (read: three and four-putting). I plan on getting a lesson soon, BUT I am interested to hear what other's do in terms of drills, mindset to create a baseline -- My biggest issues are green reading and speed control while my aim is pretty good. I generally start the ball on the line I have chosen. Thanks for any insight!
  6. Hello from Toronto, Canada! I got into golf about a year and a half ago at a buddy's bachelor party and have been addicted ever since. I am a 15 handicap and I have been following MGS for a while now because regardless of the sport I play, I love testing and reading about new gear. I have actively traded clubs and equipment since I started going from a $50 set of adams idea irons to my current set-up: Driver: Cobra Speedzone 9* Hzrdus Yellow - S 3 Wood: PXG 0341X 15* set at 16* Tour AD MT-6S 7 Wood: Callaway Epic Speed - Hzrdus Smoke iM10 - S Ping I210 5-GW - Project X 6.5 54*: Taylormade MG2 - Standard Bounce 58* Cleveland RTX Full Face - Low Bounce Putter: Mizuno M Craft IV - 35" Ball: Kirkland V2/Prov1X I look forward to engaging with the community!
