I would have no issue paying $500 or more after I was fit for it and was proven to be the best for my stroke. That said, I got my recent gamer (Bettenardi Queen Bee) for around $400 if I recall a couple of years ago and have no intention of switching anytime soon. Of course this question is highly subjective, as $500 to one person may be a much bigger financial stretch than it is to others...

100% play. Not even a question in my mind. As far as what I'd shoot (8hcp), think I could break 90 from the members tees/setup. At tournament length/greens, no chance in hell I break 100. Too much length, too many chances to make a huge number, too many 3+ putts...but would still love every second of it.
