  1. Ahhh how true this rings! My daughter is now 2 years old and man when she couldn't walk around life was easy. Now she is a toddler who gets into everything, granted she isn't a terror but you need to keep your wits about you. She definitely keeps me on my toes. Back to OPs question. I have a small putting and chipping setup in the basement. I live in the midwest so like most, Winter has golf season on pause until the warm up or you can go indoor simulators. Typically I spend a lot of my free time in the basement working on those fundamentals. This summer I plan on doing a few simple modification to my garage to allow for a portable hitting net and mat to fit so I can still keep swinging clubs. I work at a High School and daycare is near my job so big thing in my favor is I do a lot of the child care work Monday Thru Friday so my weekends are understood of getting some free time for myself. Communicate with your partner and get stuff scheduled. I still take my yearly golf buddy trip since it's always planned ahead and scheduled. My next "milestone" is after work range sessions. At the time of when my daughter could first start walking I started introducing the putter in plastic club and ball form. Now she has her own little kid putter (metal) and real golf ball. She has fun putting a few in the basement while we play so hoping this year will be the year we try our first range session together after work. That use to be my thing daily after work before her so looking forward to not only getting that back but having that time with her too. Oh yeah and during the regular season I love early morning or first tee times. Get out and done before the yuppies show up with their bluetooth speakers on max. Good Luck and Congrats!
  2. Glad to hear it because I am just more interested in meeting other golfers to play with and play golf courses that A. never have a chance to play without forking over big money 2. play top tier golf courses for cheap. I saw your FB post shared by VGA Central a little while back. You've had quite the season so far ! Bethpage Black is on my bucket list also.
  3. I signed up after being paired as a solo with another solo veteran about a few weeks ago. I am by far not good at a 16 but after hearing about the courses that they play at in my state (IL) and other states. I knew I was going to sign up ....maybe for more selfish reasons as normally I would never be able to play at some of these private courses without a membership or as a guest. Signed up 5 days ago and registered for my first event which is this Thursday at Flossmoor Golf Club. I have wanted to play at this course for years!!! Honestly I am more stoked to play a bucket list course vs the competition. Hopefully the glizzy at the turn is on point!
  4. I have yet to have a caddy of my own but on my first time to Sand Valley in Wisconsin I got to see the good and the bad. We decided on NOT getting a caddie for both of us and just go through with using our own pushcarts and trying to see what we could without one. Buddy and I have a yearly trip of trying to squeeze as much golf as possible in over three days. Day 1 started with 9am tee time at Sand Valley. We got paired with one other older gentleman who was playing a different set of tees as us with a junior caddie. I believe he said it was his first year looping. He knew of locations where you shouldn't hit into but that was about it. He obviously did all the labor for his golfer as in cleaning balls, raking bunkers etc. However, one of the most annoying things was he would talk to his golfer while they stood behind us on our tee box before walking to their tee box ahead. That is just simple etiquette and not so much experience as a caddie. Either way after teeing off we really were never near them until the green. Second round for the day was at Mammoth Dunes. This time we got paired with another twosome who had a "Veteran" caddie could tell by the different bib color he had. He was very good caddie for his group. They also played from the same tees so we were able to mooch information. He gave starting lines for drives and on blind tee shots he ran ahead and watched for his golfers balls. His information he gave to his golfers for tee shots alone helped me immensely. Even while walking with everyone down the fairway he kept the group upbeat. Only one bad note on him...... while he was raking a waste bunker..... he left his golfers wedge behind. He had to stop a marshall to notify him to go back and retrieve it. Thankfully the marshall was able to retrieve it but that is I would think rule #1 of caddying .....don't lose your golfers clubs. Nonetheless he alone changed my mind that on my return to SV next summer I will request a veteran caddie or him if he is available. Not to mention that final 18 holes of walking even with a pushcart had my calves screaming! The charlie horse that night after too many spotted cows was horrendous!
  5. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have on and off playing since I was in High School but have been more consistently paying and taking it seriously in the past 5-6 years. I am currently a 16 as I just started really maintaining a handicap about a year or two ago. Normal score is weird still since I am a high handicap I've had rounds in the low 80s and occasionally can blast out a 102 so its all over the place at times. What do you love about golf? I love the group aspect of being outdoors but also that it can feel like you are playing alone since its never really a team sport (scrambles aside). I love walking and consider myself part of the pushcart mafia. Plus the added portion that this is a lifelong game. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? As like most I was researching club and golf ball information to see what best suits me. Most results returned were to MGS so obviously the next course of action was to attempt to be part of the testers. However the information alone has been the best benefit. I don't know another other spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? Chicago , IL and I play a lot at Coyote Run Golf Course in Flossmoor, IL. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best part is the fall golf by far my favorite time of year but best time to get out and play golf walking. Worst part is like everyone else the season is always cut so short. Some years I can still play mid November, Others .....the frost arrives before Halloween. What do you do for a living? Director of Building Operations How’d you pick your user name? Prior service Army and I tend to score more Bogeys than anything else . Doubles , triples, quads ..... they are all Bogeys!
