  1. Good morning! I hope everyone is having a great week. I have two rounds set this weekend and really excited to see how they go. My driver has been amazing as of late, but my irons not so much. Anyways, I have a gameplan for these rounds and look forward to see how my game/score reflects it. Cheers!
  2. I went to the range yesterday to work on my iron game. The last few rounds my driver is killing it, but I'm losing so many strokes from terrible 2nd shots with my irons. I focused on slow controlled 3/4 swings and making flush contact on the ball. Yesterday's practice with this swing went well. Nice contact, better accuracy and still decent distance. Needless to say, I am sacrificing my total distance, but what's that worth when it's 30% or less of the time. I think I'm better off for now using a 3/4 swing and clubbing up on the course.
  3. Something I've been doing lately that's working well is keeping my head down and eyes focused behind the ball for the entire swing. Before I would be thinking of all the tips I've heard... dig back foot into sand, open face, finish hands horizontal, etc. I would then overthink and mishit the ball. I would look back at the sand and see I hit 6 inches behind where the ball was at. By keeping my eyes focused on my target and just making a committed swing through, I'm getting out 90% first try. P.s. This mindset is use has been for green side bunkers.
  4. Just got back from the range during my lunch break. I brought my driver, 3H and 4I. My main focus was my backswing and turning my hips more. I was watching my cousins swing on Monday and looked at mine and realized I was leaving 10-15% of my swing on the table. The swing felt good and can't wait to take it to the course tomorrow morning.
  5. I'm excited to see how these play during tomorrow's round. I did play on Monday at an exec course and liked what I saw. It's hard to tell in just one round, but my shots were more accurate through-out. I normally have a fade in my shots, but all my shots were pretty straight the entire round which I loved. Tomorrow will be nice to see how these play off the tee on a full-size course. Check back in soon and happy Friday!
  6. I look forward to finally testing these out. My last time out was all the way back on May 10th! I was feeling slight pain in my right elbow beginning in April and decided to rest after the 10th before things got worse. Then to add, I gave myself a stinger on my heel from softball and couldn't put any weight on my heel for almost a week! You know it's a good one when your ankle bruises black and blue, but you only hit the heel. The pain has gone away in my elbow at least and my heel is doing much better, but still can't put my full weight on it. Anyways, I finally have some tee times set up this upcoming week at Lomas Sante Fe executive and San Dimas Canyon. I won't be able to use my driver at Lomas Sante Fe, so the real test with my swing will be at San Dimas Canyon. Cheers!
  7. I believe it will. Growing up I've adapted to using shapes over color. At least in this scenario my mind is connecting big circle, inner circle (although the yellow stands out easily) and dot, rather than red yellow green. I’ll confirm once I play how it goes.
  8. @Kenny B Torrey Pines was great! The greens were still faster than ever. A lot of my chips kept rolling off unfortunately, but that's what happens when you play and practice on slow greens. We booked another tee time for Father's Day, so I know what to work on when I return.
  9. My dozen just came in late afternoon yesterday. I'm really excited to try these out and see how they play. I always played random balls that I had and never used a consistent ball until a few months ago. I bought Distance+ as my first test mainly because it was 2 dozen for $35, and I was not a fan. I fade my shots and seemed like this ball turned my fades into slices. Not long after I went and purchased Maxfli Trifli off a recommendation and now my fades stay as a fade and don't go slicing OB; much happier. I hope to go out this Friday and see how these handle. P.s. This Mindset test will be even more interesting because I'm actually colorblind and the red and green they chose are a little tough on me. Can't wait to see how that effects the play as well.
  10. Good morning and happy Friday! It’s a beautiful morning and I’m excited to be playing Torrey Pines south later today for the first time. Cant wait to share pictures later on the conditions. cheers!
  11. Good morning. I still carry and use both my 5i and my 4i. I wasn’t hitting them too well, but put a lot of focus lately and now I’m smacking them nicely. I have a 3 hybrid as well and really depends on the lie and how I feel if I use it over my 4i and vice versa. I don’t currently have any fairway woods in the bag, but perhaps in the future? We shall see.
  12. Making time to practice is so essential. I hardly ever practiced before in the past, but now I'm getting out at least once a week even if it's just wiffle balls in the backyard. I go out often with my neighbor to play an executive course because we get to play free since his father-in-law lives in the community. I was able to meet them on the back 9 and started off with 3 pars and then a birdie. Next I had my blowup hole with 2 OBs off the tee, but finished with a triple, then par bogey par bogey on last 4 holes. If I was smart I would've just dropped on the first OB and saved most likely 2 strokes. Overall I was very happy and love to see all the practice show up on the course. I'm playing Torrey Pines South this Friday, so I plan to hit the range tomorrow and Thursday to work Driver a little plus chipping and putting. Cheers!
  13. I made it out to the range during my lunch to work on my 4 iron and driver. I've been playing much more golf this year and really focusing on getting my handicap down and just overall more consistent with my swings. I noticed with my long irons (and pretty much all clubs) I was swinging all upper body and wasn't using my lower body at all. I'm really focusing on turning my hips and today's session went very well and felt good. I was only able to get a few swings with the driver, but I was very happy with my swing. Most shots had a slight fade and the others going straight which is nice to see. I was going to finish up with some chipping and putting when a senior gentlemen (84 years old) walked by to chat. He told me stories of him playing in the early 1960s in a few tournaments as an amateur and then went on to teach at Torrey for a bit and a few other clubs. We chatted for awhile and I had to unfortunately leave to get back to work, but I thought it was a great way to finish my practice. As I was leaving he said, "Just remember, keep you're head down because you'll only look up to a bad shot".
