  1. Great write up! Appreciate the help!! Will definitely look into the local spots around here as well. I know Riverwalk out in Suffolk does PXG fittings, would it be worth it to do a wedge fitting with them, then take the stats and order what I need from whatever brand I decide to go with?
  2. Good Morning Spies! Long few weeks of travel for work, subsequently getting sick coming back from travel, then family coming into town have kept me off the course. That and humid, 90+ afternoons means the afternoon 9s are slowing down as well. Hoping to get on the course soon though! Maybe some 7am weekend slots to beat the heat. The road to breaking 90 continues! Questions for the group so i don't clog up other topics with multiple new posts: End of the season I'm planning on getting a full bag fitting, what's everyone's go to club fitter? For reference, I'm in the Virginia Beach area and have a local Golftec, Club Champion, Golf Galaxy. Is it worth getting fit for wedges vs using online fitting like Vokey and Ping have? (save the money) Do you use the fitting to properly gap your clubs (D->Woods->Hybrid->Irons->Wedges) or is that done with some simulator time getting your ranges? When buying new clubs, do you sell your clubs on your own or do you trade them in towards your new clubs? Thanks spies and Happy Monday! Memes for your troubles
  3. Howdy Spies! Question for the group! This year I've decided to take my golf game a bit more seriously, and have worked on starting to play at least twice a month, if not every Friday as time allows. My game right now is mostly 9 holes after work on Friday, and have been averaging between +10 and +14. After talking with the wife, we decided that at the end of the season, if I'm still serious about playing, play consistently and get my average down to single digits through 9, we can set some budget aside for a full bag fitting. My question for the group, how do you go about mentally building a bag in the mean time? I know nothing matters until I really get the fitting, but I've been looking at my current bag (signature) and trying to figure our where my gaps are, and how I may need to shift my club set up. My current 14 club setup is: Driver, 3 Wood, 4 Hybrid, 4-PW Irons, 52*, 56*, 60* and putter. But I feel like I have gaps and overlap. My 4i gets used used low punches and escape from the forest. my wedges are all mostly used for chipping around the green and greenside bunkers, and rarely used as a full swing club, and my PW is my main full swing wedge. Looking at what my new bag might look like, this is what I've got so far, and clubs I think may suit me, full fitting dependent: Driver 10.5* (Ping 430 Max 10K) Wood 3W 15* (Ping 430 Max) Hybrid 3H 19* (Ping 430) Irons 5-PW, GW 22*-48* (Mizuno 923 Hot Metal Pro) Wedges 52*, 56*, 60* (PXG 0311 3X Forged) The way I figure, this give me an extra wedge to gap between my PW and 52*, and gets rid of the overlap at the top of my bag between my hybrid and lower lofted iron. Thoughts?
  4. Howdy Spies! Birthday and early Father's Day have been quite the treats! Finally got my DF3 in that my wife got me for my Birthday! Man is she an absolute treat! Averaging just under 2 putts per hole on the last 2 rounds, and hoping to get my distance control figured out with some practice! For Fathers Day, Wifey got me a pair of ON Cloud 5s and boy are they comfortable, great for walking and look good too! And bought myself a couple more PUMA polos. Man, I just really enjoy the feel and fit of PUMA, I think I found my polo brand. Finally! I hate shopping for hats. I'm looking for a more performance/athletic type "dad" hat. I've tried the Melin Odyssey and love the feel and the roper style, but just didn't like the look of the hat on me. I've got a bucket hat for the sunnier days on the links, but struggling to find a more everyday hat. The search continues, but I think I'm gonna take a look at Branded Bills, as they seem like they have a good offering.
  5. Good Morning Spies! A thrilling Monday sitting in a full 3 day long course for Transitioning out of the military. Bittersweet for sure, but ready for the next chapter in life, and not having to leave home for 9mo at a time with 2 little ones definitely makes it a little sweeter. A fantastic weekend for sure though! VA is officially in full swing for the summer, and with it the mosquitos have come with it, much to my dismay. No matter what, I constantly get eaten up by the mosquitos, and it doesn't help my area has the small, aggressive Asian Tiger Mosquitos, AKA Day Bitters. Joy!! Got eaten up mowing the lawn and taking down a couple trees in my back yard. Time to hibernate in the AC until October. Friday was able to hit a quick 9 after work, another sub 2 putts per hole round which is great, and my first birdie in quite some time! Dont remember the last birdie I made! Still loving the DF3, putting really does feel automatic inside 8ft, and outside 10ft, my miss is definitely distance control. Time and practice!
  6. Man, shame that I came onto the forum too late to clear the schedule to make this. Sounds like a great time with some great people! And right down the street from me too!
  7. Good Morning Spies! A beautiful day our here in Virginia Beach! I thought summer was here to stay, but a cool 74* slide its way into the forecast for today, so might as well golf! A quick afternoon 9 is in the cards for today, so looking forward to spending a little more time with the DF3. In other news, a weekend of choring around the house is coming up. We're getting a new fence installed in a couple weeks, so i need to cut down some trees, mow the lawn, and grind some stumps to prepare. They said that you save money owning your own home, my track record so far has deemed that a lie. Have a great weekend Spies!
  8. Good Morning Spies! Had a fantastic Memorial Day with a 7am Tee Time! Finally got an opportunity to spend some time with the New Bridgestone Mindset Golf Balls, and even more exciting, My new DF3!! Boy what a day it was! The Round - Red Wing Lake Golf Course Getting close to finally breaking 90! Name of the game was recoveries! Lots of missed fairways and chunked iron shots, but my chipping and approach shots really saved the day! The Legend DF3 Boy Oh BOY! They tell no lies telling you there's magic in those screws! An absolute beauty to look at, and a dream to roll putts with. Putting felt automatic inside 8ft, felt like I could just not miss. Outside of 10ft, my distance control left a lot to be desired, but I think with time, that will be easily corrected. Bridgestone Tour B RX Mindset First round with the Mindset Bridgestone, courtesy of MGS!! First impressions, wow to they fly off the tee! Shot a personal best 265yd drive that I never thought I could hit, and almost put my into a seemingly unreachable hazard. I will say, I tried using the mindset features, and watched the videos a couple times leading up to my round, but i didnt find myself gravitating towards it. Putting, I found myself wanting my traditional alignment lines, verses the 1, 2, 3, setup. I'll try it a few more times to see if it helps, but as of now, Ball is Hot, Mindset not so much. (Longest Drive) Thats all for now spies! Have a tee time Friday for 9 holes, will report back!
  9. Perfect! I'll drop my review there once i get to rolling some puts! To put it in Navy Terms, Ive had a "loss in confidence in the ability to lead" in my current putter. Ive been playing it for a couple years now, and just never really fell like I could keep it under control, get my distances right, or putt confidently. Ive seen nothing but good things with the DF3 and figured Id give it a shot, not much to lose! Rolled a few at my local Dick's House of Sports, and was in love. It just felt right. So here we are!
  10. Good Morning Spies! Its a fantastic day out in Virginia Beach! Just got notification, DF3 is out for delivery! Beyond excited to start rolling some putts, but unfortunately heading out on leave tomorrow morning, so the gaming will have to wait until I return. Finally bit the bullet on a Melin hat, so we'll see if it really is worth the price tag. This summer I've got a few items I'm gonna work on writing unofficial reviews on, specifically on my Garmin S70, DF3, and probably the Melin Hat. For those that have done long posts/reviews, is my best bet to draft in Word/Google Docs then copy and paste? Take care Spies and have a great day!
  11. In the words of my magnificent wife, "Why the hell do you need 2 bags, don't they do the same thing???" But god forbid I say anything about the purses!!
  12. What an incredible opportunity for any testers selected! If only i hadn't just bought a S70 at the start of this season! Testers are definitely in for a treat! I've worn mine every day since getting it and have loved every second of it. Will have to post an unofficial review once I get a few more rounds with it!
  13. Howdy! Wanted to see about getting the Active Duty (Soon to be veteran) and the Broke 100 badge please!
  14. Push Cart Mafia checking in, Stand bag (Callaway Fusion) is my preferred way to play. It will fit in the backseat of my 07 Mustang Convertible, the push cart folds up nicely in the truck, and I have space for my accessory box, GoPro Box and my shoes. Easy to haul off to the range, and fits the cart pretty well.
  15. This! This! This! And god forbid all wide shoes be made equal. Wouldn't that be nice.
