  1. I’ve recently started training tempo on the range in 16/8 and 21/7, seemingly has fixed a lot of issues but keeping the mental clock on course takes some time. A new feel of a Shane Lowry like right hand greatly tightened my dispersion on 18 yesterday with irons but still hooks my 5 wood. . I’m notoriously awful for trying to play the hook aimed to the right, as I swing even more in to out and gain penalties like candy. My 5 wood continues to be the worst, I’d call it a borderline unplayable hook. Driver/7 wood are more confidently playable. I’m going to try a big box store to try regular and stiff iron shafts, interested in the results. Appreciate the insight, cheers!
  2. Awesome to hear the big stores have more advanced tech like a shaft optimizer. I appreciate your thoughts- definitely agree with the closing statement. Cheers!
  3. MGS Members, I hope you all are well! I'm sure this question is asked time and time again but would love some input from members out there more experienced and better players than myself. I'm a current 18 Handicap with a whole bunch of heavy shafts. Not fit for them, primarily ego driven. I'm 6'4, workout, and swing out of my shoes at the range/simulator, so I've (probably foolishly) picked heavy stuff. Driver: GT Tour UB7X 5 Wood: HRZDUS Yellow 70G XS. 7 Wood: GT Tour XC 7X. Irons: KBS $-Taper 125 S+ Wedges: 115 FST (51*), 125 KBS Hi-Rev. My Ball Flight has always been crazy right to left, or primarily on line-hook left. Looking for perspective/input on if I should consider a lighter shaft or in general a shaft fitting. I understand heavier shafts primarily help reduce spin. However, at my skill level, clearly my swing has some major in to out madness (see Trackman numbers below). According to Trackman optimizer charts (for Driver), I am nearly optimal for my best drives. Driver: 245 Carry, 100.7 CHS, 146 BS, 14.1 LA, 1.45 Smash, 2410 spin, 5.6 AA, 12.6 Club Path 8.3 FA. 6 Iron (31*): 166 Carry, 84.5 CHS, 116 BS, 15.7 LA, 1.38 Smash, -3.6 AA, -1.4 Face to Path 8 Iron (39*): 144 Carry, 82 CHS, 106 BS, 20.1 LA, 1.3 Smash, 6270 spin, -4 AA, -1 Face to Path Any insight across the bag would be appreciated. TIA!
  4. Two iron looks incredible, what loft does it play at?
  5. Good morning All! First time poster. Been playing golf more seriously after college, played often when stationed in Hawaii, now a little less when transferred to Boston by the Army. Originally was fit into a full PXG bag (pricey!) when I had little knowledge of golf/equipment. Bag is now a mixed bag, not professionally fit, and definitely not optimal. Driver: Srixon ZX5, 9.5 Degree, Setting changes by the day. Shaft: Graphite Tour UB7X, 45.25" length, My ego/swinging as hard as I can on Trackman tricked me into thinking heavy = better. 100 Driver CHS tells a different story, currently may trade for a 6S/ 6X Graphite Tour shaft. Suggestions appreciated. Woods: PXG 0317X 5 Wood, set to 16.5*. Shaft: HZRDUS Yellow XS, +1 inch Length. Only Survivor of initial PXG Bag. Also convinced shaft is way too heavy. Srixon ZX MKII 7 Wood, Graphite Tour AD XC, Standard Length. Newest impulse purchase after selling Titleist TSI3 3 Hybrid (beyond my skill level). Consistent Push Draw, all other clubs are either normal "draw" (mostly hooks) or pull hooks. New Favorite. 4 Hybrid: Maltby STH2 24*, 39.75" length. UST Proforce 85X Shaft, also too heavy (I believe). Also impulse purchase after moving to Boston. Better results that 4 iron regardless of shaft weight. Irons: Mizuno MP57 (2008, my elderly bag member), 5-P. KBS $-Taper 125 S+ shafts, +.25 length, 1 up. Shoutout to The Golf Bench for the build, superb build and customer service. Might be a little short for me (6'4), I've had single digit chunks and endless tops, although definite user error. Not forgiving for a player of my caliber (18 HCP), but I do enjoy the predictability of well struck shots carrying roughly the same distance. Carry distance starts around 120 with the PW, 5 Iron (27*) can get around 180 carry with a well struck shot (rare). Wedges: 51+ Edison V1 Wedge, FST 115 Stiff +.25 length. Another Boston addition but my favorite club at the moment. Definitely a signal that lighter/less stiff shafts might be my future. Hit nearly every 90 yard and in shot with it. 57* Wilson Staff Model Wedge, KBS Tour 125 shaft, +.25 Length. Currently only used for short pitch and sand shots. Might think about an FST Shaft given my Edison success. Putter: Forgot this initially. Putter is a Bettinardi 2021 Studio Stock 7 with a Garsen Max 15" grip. Only issue with the putter is the lack of putts made! A Kapalua headcover lets my playing partners know I missed countless putts on one of the most beautiful courses in the world. Ball: Ask for AVX or Pro V1s as a gift, but I buy Maxfli Tour/Tour S. At my Handcap/Skill level, little difference felt/seen, so the least of my improvement worries. MGS was the biggest influence on choosing MaxFlis, and I have not been disappointed (I have played MaxFli Tour this entire summer off 1 discounted, 4 dozen pack). A professional fitting could certainly help me optimize shafts/carry distance, but in my opinion lessons and more consistency on my end is needed before I can chase "optimal" equipment that'll add up on the credit card. Overall a lot of impulse purchases that are hit and miss. Would love to hear any opinions on the bag. Cheers! Bennett
