  1. I got to play with A2G again today at Chalet Hills in Bufu, IL. Unlike last time, I brought a little bit of game with me. Shot a 10 over 83 which included 4 penalty shots incurred from the tee (the course, as Blaine will attest, can be borderline ridiculous off the tee) and many burned edges (including a birdie putt on 4 that was halfway down). I hit 6 GIR's, got up and down 5 times, and had 7 one-putts. My iron play was better than it's been all year, which was the biggest thing for me. As I said to Blaine, "It's like the fact that I practiced the last 2 days made me better." Something to think about...

  2. I played at Harborside in Chicago today with a golf outing. The course was wet, the wind was stiff, and the greens were slick and tricky. Carded a 95 with a strong finish on the last 6 holes. While I'm not pleased with the score, I am pleased to consider that in spite of the wind and wet, if I had made more of the bendy, lip burning 6 footers, and taken a few less penalty strokes out of the fescue, I could have been well under 90.

  3. Our KC Cup team dominated yesterday, taking out our opponent 7-3 and putting us in 1st in our division! My 4 ball partner had his career best round (70) and I shot an ugly 81. Great thing was, we played against the guys that screwed us in the last match! On the first tee, the guy said "there are no hard feelings about that last match are there?" I replied "ya, a little bit". He looked a little taken aback, and said "oh, so, I guess you're supposed to kick our ass today then?" and I said "that's the plan!", we beat them 6-4 and they didn't even finish out the round! Victory is SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This weekend is Club Championship weekend, game is feeling ok, hoping for a good showing!

Congrats on your sweet revenge and good luck in your club championship.

I have a golf outing tomorrow and a free round at a private club on Monday, so my life could be worse. I'm just hoping for cooperative weather and reasonable iron play.

  4. Sunday I played with the teacher's group and shot one of the few rounds I can remember that I would say I was very proud of. I started out with 6 bogeys and a double, just not hitting any good shots at all. I was pretty resigned to putting a "9" in front of my score, but I didn't get down, didn't really do anything, just kept playing and found a way to get a few good things out of the round. Ended up with 6 pars on the last 11 holes for an 86. Not my best score, but I was very happy to get that out of a day when I had very little going for me.

  5. I shot a 43 today with 3 fairways, 3 GIRs, and 16 putts. Putted very well - knocked down all my putts inside 10 feet and some of them were pretty nasty. Ball striking was pretty mediocre and the driver wasn't wild, but it wasn't quite on point either. I do give myself a bonus pat on the back for playing golf psychologist to the guy I was playing with - he was having a miserable time, but I'd like to think that I had a hand in his finishing with a par on a tough par 5.

  6. My ride back to playing respectable golf continues. I only got 6 holes in today (marking the third consecutive time my dad and I have been rained out), but I made 3 pars and 3 easy bogeys and I hit a lot of good shots. The putter change has got me back in an aggressive mindset - I dropped a 25+ footer and hit everything else to 6 inches. Also chipped one in, which is good fun.

  7. I got in 6 holes Monday with my dad. Scoring was similar to Saturday and Sunday but the flickers of my best game were longer, and I hit some shots that were top 10%, so I walked away very happy. I feel like if I don't go through another "2 weeks without touching clubs" stretch, I should start to see some good golf soon.

  8. Swing lube was not an issue, as I tell everyone, I take drinking and golf too seriously to intermingle the two.

Today was both better and worse. Saturday I shot 91 without hitting more than a handful of iron shots into the air (it was really that bad, Blaine will testify), so I felt good about holding it together with wedges and putting. Today I shot 90 and found a million ways to make bogey: GIR + 3 putt, missed green + chip + 2 putt, double chip + 1 putt. It was frustrating because everything worked well at some point during the round, but nothing ever came together. It was nice to see hints of things working though. If the rain holds off (which I don't think it will), I'm playing tomorrow AM with my dad. I am confident that I will put a few things together.

  9. Michael,

Just wanted to let you know that I took delivery of a jar of BCAA's the other day. The taste is OUTSTANDING mixed with water. I got the berry banana and it tastes like a good sports drink. I also like the small scoop size - I hate having to chug down a liter of water just to get the mix to dissolve. Can't really say anything about results as this is only day 3, but I was hurting after yesterday's workout and woke up with minimal soreness, so that's good. I'll keep you all posted on how things are going.

    -Matt

  10. Got out for 9 on a beautiful day. Made a solid up and down on #2 and birdied 6 by chipping in from 25 yards. The rest was pretty forgettable, but I didn't learn what the source of my recent iron problems have been - my knee. The fix is easy enough and I should be playing more consistent golf very soon.

  11. Went out to a new course with my dad yesterday and shot a very pleasing 40 on 9 holes over the course of 3 hours. 5 bogeys, 1 birdie, and 3 pars, 4 GIRs, 4 fringe in reg on very small, very slow greens. The newly fitted irons performed very well for me. My only real complaint was that I had 2 balls sniped from me by people playing adjacent holes.

  12. The golf gods got me back for boasting about my 78. I played a round yesterday with my dad and hit every iron shot like I'd never picked up a club before. Literally topped everything or, at best, hit giant blocks to the right. Hopefully I can go find something in the dirt this weekend so I can play next week.

  13. Your brother is still getting hand me downs? It just never ends when you are the youngest - does it?

Nope. You shouldn't feel too bad for him though, his first "real" golf bag had: TM driver, brand new TM irons, Vokey wedges, and a Bettinardi putter. Not exactly like I was handing down pants with holes in them.

  14. Good point. The Launcher DST Cleveland just sent me for review says "Mitsubishi Rayon design for Cleveland Golf". I assume that is what you are referring to?

Yup. Similar to the Matrix shafts in the Adams Fast 10's, the Mitsubishis in the original Nike Sasquatch's...plenty of examples.

More importantly, how can I get companies to send me free clubs?

  15. Yeah, same here. I've found all the NV shafts very board like for their flex - even the NVS. Just not the shafts for me. On the other hand, the Mitsubishi Diamana series which has been making its way into a lot of clubs lately seems to work pretty well.

I think Mitsubishi makes some very nice shafts, but you do need to pay attention to whether or not you're getting a true Whiteboard/Blueboard/etc or if you're getting a "made for" shaft. If you like the way it performs, I guess it doesn't really matter, but it is something to consider.

  16.

The MGS review system is better and it would be great if it drove the Hot List to extinction

    Ditto.

The first couple years that I golfed seriously, I really looked forward to the Hot List, like "Oh boy, I'm gonna learn something about all this new equipment." Then I found out it's basically a list of everything that you see advertised in the magazine without any substantive reviews or feedback.

Joe B from MA thinks the new TM driver is wicked long? Awesome, I need to go buy one right now!

Give me real, unbiased, scientific date any day of the week.

  17. Haha - nice replies guys, cheers. I'm happily married, with a 4yr old daughter, and I play as much golf as I can  Just let me have this one little thing, and don't judge me ;)

Buddy, we've got guys here with more shoes than Foot Locker, guys with more putters than rounds played/year...this is a judgment free zone for sure.
