  1. Once upon a time about 25 months ago, i got some crazy notion in my head that i was losing distance with my driver (G400 LST) due to a stiff shaft ( Xtorsion Copper )   I felt like i had to put too much effort into the swing to get decent distance - resulting in the occasional overswing over the top face wide open high stinky.    So went to small local golf shop in Columbus - good guys  listened to me - had me hit 10-15 drives on the LM with my current set-up to get warmed up.   Next  had me go putt for 5 minutes to settle down and then 10 shots with the radar turned on.   The recommended i look at a regular flex shaft that could get my spin up a couple hundred revs.
Here comes the problem  -  I'm a lefty and i'm playing a low spin head  and its in covidish era, and there are supply chain issues so - would up using a mizuno head ST-Z  that they could easily fit different shafts into
So - since the xtorsion was in limited supply, the closest to it being a tensei orange pro - we started there  10 shots in tensei orange pro stiff to grab a new base-line - was actually similar to the ping+  xtorsion
Next up Regular Flex Shafts  Hzrdus Red,  Tensei Orange (non pro), Aldila Ascent Red    NO GOOD  all over the place Ball Speed was up over 5mph  but spin and more importantly Side Spin were up a bunch.
Last Chance - out comes a Black and Blue Evenflow Riptide CB Regular flex  and VOILA!!!!  we have gold  -   higher launch, higher ball speed, easier to swing, and side spin was down significantly but still higher that the stiffy  but way easier to swing and get the distance   SOLD  Out the Door for $70 with a ping adapter installed

3 months later - the Xtorsion is back in the club   I play a pretty tight course regularly and finding the fairway is a huge premium  -

SO  MORAL OF THE STORY -  GET FIT OUTSIDE  SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE BALL LAND AND HOW IT BEHAVES    preferably somewhere where they can mark out an approximate fairway

That said  I got fit into a Scotty Newport at PGATSS and it has performed as advertised - putts per round have dropped from 34 to 30 - mind you it took a month dedicated to getting it dialled in but it is a game changer -  previous was a stroke lab 2-ball

  2. Date 06/30/2023
Course Name Deer Ridge Golf Course
    Gross Score 78
    Course Handicap 11
    Gross Strokes over/under par 6
    Net Score to Par -5
    Net Score 67
    Net Birdies or better 0
    Longest Drive 260

If you're in central ohio and havent played Deer Ridge, she's a beauty - lots of elevation changes and when its dry, the greens are crazy hard.  the beauty is most of the par 5s are reachable in 2

  3. I played a Cobra 5W for a while, decent off the tee, or low rough - High flight easy to cut or draw.  Switched it out for a Ping G30 3H a few years ago when i started playing a course that was much tighter.   The 3H is much lower normal ball flight and much easier to flight down further if i need to punch out of trouble.   I have been considering adding a Titleist 4H, and replacing the 5H and 4-iron with a 7W.

So  any help to the OP?  analyze your game and your needs,  get fitted - re-arrange your bag to suit your game and the course your playing

  4. Going a little against the grain - 4 years ago i wanted more forgiveness and something that was easier on my arthritic back and hips - was playing callaway x-22 with regular flex steel shafts

A couple fitting session later and i was ordering taylormade M5 irons 4-sw with graphite regular+ shafts - atmos red i think they are.  and i coupled those with new gloves by BIONIC

Distance and accuracy went way up, discomfort went down.

SO lesson of the day  -  go to a fitter and pay attention  I used mmm  Golf Galaxy, went to 1 store and didnt mesh with the pro there - he was pushing cleveland launchers on me i couldnt stand the look of them so i left and a week later was in another GG and the guy there listened to what i had to say and initially set me up with the newer callaways with steel in senior,  no go  all over the place, then steel in regular better dispersion but still a variety of missess,  on to ping - i use a G400 lst driver with a copper xtorsion shaft - and they felt really good but were going to be a month or 2 out, and then tried the TM M6 which was just like the ping G, misses with both of those were low on the face,  finally tried an M5 they had in a graphite regular and boom long and felt much nicer on contact,  tried in Stiff to tighten up the dispersion which worked lost a little distance and settled on ordering the regular+ shafts.

    They have been fantastic -

SECOND part of the fitting, i try the bionic gloves they look weird but immediately noticed much lighter grip pressure, the hook is mostly gone and they last !
